Vecher v hatu ('hello'), stranger. Here's some best russian and post-soviet area music you can chek out. You can listen all that stuff easily right from this site, just install googlChrome + this plugin: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/bbncpldmanoknoahidbgmkgobgmhnafh?hl=en (choose vkontakte.ru or vk.com as a source). Install and start a journey.

First of all Инна Желанная, especially her latest stuff - "Зима" (Winter) dvd\cd, and most cool - LIVEs compilation, also new dvd is here, a torrent approved by the author http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3143765. She and her band play amazing things. The basis-melody of the compositions are actual old russian folk songs from different regions. But what they build around it is this dark ambientish groovy music. Get a tasting here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fi6oSdekCE and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzGGJjzTcZI
u can get all the stuff for free or for the amount of money you wish to pay here: http://inasound.kroogi.ru/ or just listen right there.

Next stop. АукцЫон - this stuff is just insane. Weird nonsense lyrics, great music. I would recommend "Птица" and "Девушки Поют" albums for a start. The latter is from 2007, Mark Ribot and John Medeski played on thet one. Insane thing.

Next one. Маша и Медведи. Again, http://masha-i-medvedi.kroogi.ru/ provides all 3 albums, new one is about to come. The best and toughest one is "Без Языка". Earlier albums are more poprocky, but all of the contain kinda emotionally 'heavy' stuff, like hit "Б.Т.". Anyway, "Без Языка" is the highest point as for now, in my opinion, very soulful.

Safety Magic - that mix of mantras in hindi, odd timing, meditative chants, hindu and other folk instruments, a bit of progrock-related elements... and the sax and drums players, holy damn they do deliver. You can get a couple of live recordings from their www.safetymagic.ru Absolute must-listen-to. http://www.myspace.com/safetymagic

Вежливый отказ - this band can be compared to early Gentle Giant in some ways, but "Вежливый отказ" is minimalistic in arrangements and much more avant-guad, especially in lyrics, which are of no sence most of the time, sometimes ironic. Some moments may remind of John Coltrane, but music isn't very jazzy, just a tiny bit. Frank Zappa's "Ocean is the ultimate solution" comes to mind as well. Main dude Roman Suslov is a horse breeder, how cool is that. http://vezhlivyotkaz.kroogi.com dere u go.

Tequilajazzz - this band is no more, they split in the middle of the year, , but now the mastermind of tzzz Evgany Fedorov has started a new band, http://www.zorgemusic.com, they're doing some shows, some music are abou to pe released, stay tuned. TZZZ started as kinda prog-hardcore band, but then became more melodic and unique. http://tequilajazzz.kroogi.ru/ - "Выше осени", "Целлулоид", "150 миллиардов шагов", "Вирус" - that's awesome. Complicated lyrics, btw.

813 - abstract hip-hop from Moscow, this guy knows what he's doing.

Воплі Відоплясова urkanian win. EP "Ладо" is killer. And ChioCio-San, I mean look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXTWgw86CLI Main guy Oleg Skrypka lived in France for some time, busked on the streets of Paris, made friednship with Manu Chao at that time.

also, here some less unique, less authentic, if you know what i mean, but cool bandz as well:

Ляпис Трубецкой - band got famous first for their pop-hits, but hits were actually a parody. But the musical reality of post-soviet area in 90s were so... hm... well, people bought parody as if it was actually the thing it was a parody of. Anyway, even parodies were pretty cool, but for you it would be almost impossible to "get it" withot the context. So, you'll probably be greatly confused by albums "Ты Кинула" and "Тяжкий"... but nevermind. They went away for awhile, tasted new sound on "Золотые Яйцы" - kinda reggae-oriented, and that came full-blast with ska-punk attack of "Капитал" and "Manifest". Those albums kick much ass, chek them out. http://lyapis.kroogi.ru/ Probably one of the if not the most popular band in Russia of 2007-2009. In their motherland - Belarus - they give stadium-size shows. Biggest one was in Minsk for like 9000 people. Now they r banned there, main guy Serge Mikhalok lives in Moscow, I think (when not on tour).

Probably most popular band in Russia, at least most popular band of 00s for sure - Ленинград. Ska-rock balagan, probably a bit useless without lyrics. Nevertheless, chek out last-fm-top, you'll get the idea.

Океан Ельзи - arena-rock from Ukraine. Just damn good rock hits, "Суперсимметрия", "Gloria" and "Dolce Vita" are the coolst releases. In Ukraine they sell out stadiums in big cities, they r more popular than salo there. In CD-existing era they once sold 100 000 copies in Ukraine in just hours literally. It's like releasing album at breakfast, getting it gold by the lunchtime and platinum by dinner.

hope you'll enjoy. Not alot, but at least smth. Na Zdorovje!
