Thanks for letting me know! I'll definitely make seeing Steven Wilson live at the Ballroom a priority.

Hey, thanks, I'll check them out. I downloaded Boxcutter a while ago because he's from where I live and he was doing a gig but I just didn't bother listening to it. Have you listened to John Talabot and Recondite? They're the only people I can think to recommend at the moment, deep house and acid house(?) respectively.

To be honest, I don't know a lot of modern experimental rock bands that don't have a retro-influenced prog sound, but I'll name a few good artists. St. Vincent, dredg, and umm.... Thomas Giles's new solo album? I don't know too much, sorry.

What a small world! I don't know M83 all that well, but the venue that they're playing in, the Town Ballroom, is a good one. There's no bad spots, and despite some problems involving staff not allowing cameras/Swiss army knives, it's overall a good place to see live music. I've been there to see Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Anthrax, and I'm going to be there for the Machine Head concert later next month.

I understand. I kinda have that problem with Opeth as well: they'll have a great riff or section that shows up once and never comes back, and too often, their music seems formulaic to a degree. Granted, I still am a relatively big fan of their work, and 'Still Life' is one of my favorite albums of all time. And Buffalo FTW! It's an interesting place, that's for sure.

Thank you sir! The answer is yes, I hope someday to write professionally about it, as I have a passion for it.

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band is what last.fm likes, but most of his albums are labeled "Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band" on the covers. I usually refer to his stuff as "Beefheart" for short. Oh, and his real name is Don Van Vliet.

Conóceme

When listening to music, I try to understand the historical context of genres, and what motivated an artist/group to create a certain album and the musical lineage they are a part of.

My taste in music, genre-fied:
