Greetings my friends,
How would I begin? I was born and raised in the old Land of Europe, but relocated to the U.S. from Milan in my late 20s. I was a young teenage Goth"ess" at heart, walking the dark streets of London when the Punk movement was at his height. Chains, black leather, spiked hair, and piercings were the insignia of an angry youth surrounded by poverty and grim futures. Filled with unfocused hopes of rebellion and a very simple philosophy of abject despise of any authority. Of course I had no clue then that I was witnessing a wave of change. If I were to use a metaphor describing our shared feelings as we encountered each other's path in smoky clubs near the Thames River, I would say that their manners were rather "werewolf-like", whereas I would rather thread the land of the "Vampiria". But still, I was not taken by the derivatives of British Punk. I was always moved by Neoclassic Darkwave and Symphonic Goth Metal, which exploded in what Great Britain refers to as "The Continent" (Europe), from the ambient vampiric hypnotic orchestrations of Italy to the Beauty and the Beast themes of the Scandinavia or the primarily male guttural rendition of Middle Europe. How magnificent to see a new generation of young adults and even older ones embracing with such passion the symphonies of my developing and still growing years. It is bravery indeed to acknowledge one's intensity and survive being on the fringe. It is my hope that at some point more producers will allow for those bands to tour our Country (U.S.A.). It brings such delight to this gothic heart to see so many youngling souls share in the same sublime light of darkness and conquer in strength.
