On The Fiction Maze I suggest to have a closer look at such things as Deep in the Dark and Son of Sodom especially. Spellblast is a solid thing, they indeed dropped their folk roots and jumped onto a heavy/power metal train with their new singer who is enjoyable despite his terrible accent, haha. I don't know how you English-speaking folks listen to such vocalists, should sound terrible! At least 4-5 songs are very good and there are just a couple I find redundant so this is an improvement for them, in my opinion. Those The World Has Moved On and Into the Demon's Nest tracks are just infectious. As for Whispered, it's really confusing, some tracks are just godlike (Lady of the Wind!!!, Hold the Sword, Upon My Honor), but the thrash influence kinda ruined the others or they are just average (Fallen Amaterasu, One Man's Burden, Unrestrained). Kappa is just weird shit :D At least they improved the production and the harsh vocals so they're on the right track, maybe next time.

Don't know about Iced Earth since I could never get into them (as much as pretty every other metal band from US :X) but Persuader managed to produce a weird album, it has 7 nice and diverse songs BUT THEN it takes a Challenger Deep jump into utter and complete SHIT. I've heard it over half a hundred of times and still don't know how to feel about this.

Well yea, I have to say there haven't been many revelations and even just near-top stuff. Amorphis went full blast which I didn't expect and that's pretty much it, there are a lot of great albums as you can see from my little chart which lived up to the expectations and a bunch of good ones but overall the quality of things could have been better. Also there are some disappointements as usual and some really promising things moved to the next year (The Unguided, Persuader). Anyway, the next year is the year of Time dilogy conclusion and everything else can very well go to flames :D

Yea, I've never seen MyGrain live either. I had a chance to see Kiuas here but it was with Asim already and I was sure to skip. This time it's pretty clear this is the last chance ever because Ilja is still pretty confident about not returning to Kiuas and maybe to metal in general. I've never been to Finland but I decided to finally do it for this gig. How about killing some embassy employees? :D

I guess you're the only one who shares the sympathy for all/most of them in my friendlist, haha :D I decided I have to visit Kiuas farewell show and so I will do!

It's alreayd revealed on both website and Facebook page. Shit, man. What a sad day. Though maybe it's better like this than searching for someone who will nevertheless fail to replace Ilja. Let's hope the future project will be at least of some interest.

Music you have in common includes Propagandhi, Japandroids, Passion Pit, Rancid and NOFX.

They kindda deserve it though their album is not perfect, unfortunately. But it's quite intense and melodic, I also love the band in general so it's of no surprise. There's nothing better out there by now but there surely will be (Manowar, Wintersun, Ensiferum, Machinae Supremacy — this is gonna be a fucking insane year). DA is a classy stuff, be sure to check them out, it's a rising star on symphonic/power metal horizon.

It didn't bring anything good on the table and is even worse than Everything Remains... to me. Chriegel's vox sound terrible, as if he sings for a wishy-washy metalcore band. The guitars are as if begging to play Dark Tranquillity's riffs and get in the way of the folk melodies - all in all, a terrible mess. Slania will always remain my favorite record of theirs, it seems :) Epica won me over with The Divine Conspiracy and Design Your Universe albums, before that they were too much of a soundtrack band. The new one is diluted sympho prog whatever, just not what I wanted to hear... so yeah, I'd recommend those two. And I damn sign under your Sonata judgement.

I'm more into the first three Battlelore efforts, they're almost equally flawless to me, with maybe a tad more love for Third Age of the Sun. Surprises... hmm, both Epica and Eluveitie disappointed me and while I expected this from the latter, Epica was quite the shock. The new Sonata Arctica is surprisingly not exactly the garbage I expected it to be... other than that, everything is according to plan. Moonspell, Paradise Lost and The Foreshadowing hold the lead when it comes to the best I've heard of 2012 for now, so it's a "dark" domination. On the power metal side I'd go for Iron Fire and DragonForce, the sympho prize belongs to Xandria. And yes, the new Before the Dawn finally sounds entertaining enough. :D

Battlelore used to release great albums... nothing that amazing on their recent outputs sadly, at least not for me. Arkona is always great live, you'll have a blast :) Not to mention it'll be a gig with Turisas. Enjoy it!

If you like their album check first three records of Sonic Syndicate if you still haven't done that, four core past and present members from there form The Unguided now.

The album is glorious, I think it's their best effort but unfortunately Lars Eiking, the clean singer and bass player, left the band shortly after the release, mostly because Tuomas Saukkonen, the mastermind, decided he wants to make something new under this moniker. So their next release will feature little to no cleans and probably some new elements.

Yeah that was pretty much a shock, the band had been having the same line-up for years and... not that the other guys can't be replaced but not Ilja, I don't know any other singer anywhere who has even a slightly similar voice. And I still think Asim won't be even a worthy replacement anyhow. Maybe only if Mikko writes a totally different music. Lustdriven was a stellar album and still is, I really expected this path to be continued but... Feel free to, I hope you'll like some of those as I do.
