Musical Evolution Of KyKy

16 Dic 2006, 3:02

This Journal was inspired by one of my friends on when I stumbled upon his page, and he asked himself the same question I always thought about myself. The Question being 'Have I Been Saved' Musically.

When I was about the age of 5, I can vaguely remember myself listening to Spice Girls, The Smurfs and all that, I was basically a child that would basically listen to anything as most of us were back at that age. When I started to Develop at the age of 8 or 9 I was heavily influenced by my older brother with my musical taste, listening to a lot of Bon Jovi, Sash, Billie Piper, OutKast, Baha Men, Eminem and Shaggy.

Luckily for when my brother moved out, while me being the age of 10 years old, I lost all interest in music, as my parents not being the very musical influencing type of people, so I had nothing to listen too.

But my sister ended getting into the wave of 'Nu Metal' which then influenced me and I got swallowed by it, at this time my favourite bands being Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, I believe, I also had an interest in Blink 182, Sum 41 and P.O.D.

Time went on by and I started to get bored of all that stuff and plus it started to die out, but then i discovered the 'Heavy' stuff, well thats what it seemed like at the time, this being Marliyn Manson, Korn, Slipknot and a little Metallica plus I even enjoyed some Eminem from time to time. I enjoyed this music for a while, but don't get me wrong I still enjoy listening to Slipknot till this very day, in fact I was listening to them about 20 minutes ago, but then I seemed to ignore Metallica, for a little while at least.

I'd say in between 2001-2003 I started to lose interest in music, but I continued from where I left off late 2003 but then in Early 2004 I discovered the Album that changed my life, it was the Freddy Vs Jason Soundtrack, I purchased the album because I recognised the name Ill Nino, no other reason apart from that, although Slipknot did also feature on the CD, at the time this album was seen as really extreme to me, I fell in Love with some tracks like:

How Can I Live
When Darkness Falls
Beginning of the End

I fell in love with Killswitch Engage, Spineshank and Ill Nino, I then purchased all the albums of these 3 artists which included The End of Heartache, Confession and Self-Destructive Pattern, little did I know Spineshank had already disbanded before I started liking them, but luckily the Vocalist, Jonny Santos is now in another great band Silent Civilian.

From that point I discovered Roadrunner Records, because of the Freddy Vs. Jason Soundtrack, I then found bands like Machine Head, Chimaira and more.

Apart from that my sisters boyfriend was into 'Melodic Death Metal', he influenced her and then she influenced me, which is where I got introduced to some of my now favourite bands: In Flames, Arch Enemy and Children of Bodom, he also happened to be a huge Metallica fan and influenced me to get back into them.

My other favourite bands apart from Killswitch Engage, Ill Nino, Arch Enemy, Spineshank, In Flames, Children Of Bodom and Metallica that I haven't previously mentioned are All That Remains, Soulfly, The Agony Scene and 36 Crazyfists

I'm still looking for new bands to listen to all the time, I struggle to find them so any recommendations are very much welcome. I have recently discovered a band from another friend off, Engel, who are produced by Anders Friden of In Flames and are bringing out a full record soon, I have high hopes of them after hearing a few songs.

With Regards to Recommendations, I love a mixture of singing and growling/screaming, rarely do I like bands who just Growl, with a few minor exceptions, i.e Arch Enemy.

I believe I was saved somehow with my music taste, as the fragile mind that I once was When I discovered Korn and Slipknot, I could have easily ended up liking Fall Out Boy, God help me if I did!

First Journal and I've been on here for over a year.

It is good to see you have a interest in P.O.D. and keep listening to P.O.D. since it's good music.

There's nothing wrong with a little musical maturity. But I too cannot help but listen to the nü-metal days of yore.

haha the beginning remembers me of myself, started with nu metal (linkin park) in 2001, ran through korn, metallica and now ended up with mainly melodic death metal... but i still like these old bands... but i already listened to megadeth when i was 3 ^^ my stepfather got all cds by them and i liked the cover of youthanasia (with the babys on the strip) so i wanted to listen to them.... when i was getting into them again (about 2003-2004) i KNEW that i already heard some songs and so my parents told me that story...
