Just a wee Lyrics Game to fill the gap as I finally get around to wrapping up 1982 and prepare to move on to 1983......

Each song title has either sun, moon or star in it. It seemed like a good idea but there weren't nearly as many sun/moon/star titled songs as I imagined, and it produced a very strange mixed bag.....

The Lyrics

1. Now we play our final hand
Move in closer, understand
This time like never before

1000 Stars - Big Country

2. Someone will call
Something will fall
And smash on the floor

The Sun And The Rainfall - Depeche Mode

3. After school
Walking home
Fresh dirt under my fingernails

The Sun - Maroon 5

4. Oh you sad one
Playing the angel
Isn't so easy where you're from

The Darkest Star - Depeche Mode

5. Touch me
How can it be
Believe me

The Sun Always Shines on TV - a-ha

6. The last that ever she saw him
Carried away by a [song title]
He passed on worried and warning

Moonlight Shadow - Mike Oldfield

7. I want to see the [song title]
I want to see bluebirds flying
over the mountains again

Sunshine After the Rain - Berri

8. [Song title], yesterday my life was filled with rain
[Song title], you smiled at me and really eased the pain
The dark days are gone, and the bright days are here

Sunny - Boney M

9. I live my life in the city
There's no easy way out
The day's moving just too fast for me

Rock 'N' Roll Star - Oasis

10. [Song title] x 3
I need to laugh and when the sun is out
I've got something I can laugh about

Good Day Sunshine - The Beatles

11. One more day I may forget my reason
Some would say we bathed like a harpoon
Followed politely south it feels like treason

Texas Moon - The Church

12. I can’t light no more of your darkness
All my pictures seem to fade to black and white
I’m growing tired and time stands still before me

Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me - Elton John

13. We could both be something still
We could spend our lives fulfilled
We could leave the battlefields

Pink Marshmallow Moon - Big Country

14. Giant steps are what you take
[song title]
I hope my legs don’t break

Walking on the Moon - The Police

15. Please could you stay awhile to share my grief
For it’s such a lovely day
To have to always feel this way

Wandering Star - Portishead

16. Dirty old river, must you keep rolling
Flowing into the night
People so busy, makes me feel dizzy

Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks

17. Shake up the picture the lizard mixture
With your dance on the eventide
You got me coming up with answers

New Moon On Monday - Duran Duran

18. Half of a letter
Tells half a story
The way I see it

East of the Sun - a-ha

19. I heard you on the wireless back in ‘52
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you
If I was young it didn't stop you coming through

Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles

20. These thoughts can be evil and they often deceive.
Gotta believe that I can overcome,
My fears are the worst and they always return

Feel The Sun - Melanie Chisholm

21. It picks me up, puts me down again
I never know when my troubles will end
This little street with its den of sin

Sun Street - Katrina and the Waves

22. Now the time has come,
The music's between us
Though the night seems young

(Reach Up For The) Sunrise - Duran Duran

23. It’s 3 A.M, I’m going home
I watch the white lines pass alone
There is no moon so I just drive

Take You to the Moon - Big Country

24. Long hard years with the fishing fleet
I hear the owner says he don’t need another bad year
Like the five that went before

Starred And Crossed - Big Country

'Cause you shine on me wherever you are
I just think of you and I start to glow

    5. a-ha - The Sun Always Shines on TV 6. Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow 7. Berri - Sunshine after the Rain 11. The Church - Texas Moon 14. Police - Walking on the Moon 16. Kinks - Waterloo Sunset 19. The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star oddly, I can't seem to see the lyrics for Walking on Sunshine I should really get more than this. (Maybe I'm tired) You're missing a lot of iconic sun/moon/star songs, like House of the Rising Sun Sunshine of Your Love Steal My Sunshine One Sunny Day Marquee Moon Bad Moon Rising (or, since you're Australian and my age, you probably remember The Reels' version) Moonshadow Pink Moon Ziggy Stardust Starman Movie Star Highway Star Starless All up, I get 233 songs with sun, moon or star.

Excellent - all correct. Just 8 left now, and since virtually no other Big Country listeners involve themselves in Lyrics Games, I suppose the four Big Country songs in there will remain unidentified. That then leaves us with the somewhat strange cheese-o-rama combo of Boney M, Melanie Chisholm, Elton John and Katrina and The Waves..... As to KATW - It's not Walking On Sunshine.... 'Missing', 'iconic' songs? Well that's the way it goes with the old lyrics quiz and the i-tunes shuffle selection 'technique'...all manner of sun, moon and star related songs didn't shuffle onto the list from The Sun Never Shone That Day to The House of the Rising Sun to Here Comes the Sun to The Whole of the Moon to Starman to Ain't No Sunshine to Bad Moon Rising to Moondance to The Killing Moon to Star Trekkin' to Superstar and I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me and many, many more....

Aw, gee, I missed most of the easy ones. That's what I get for spending the last few days on Facebook instead of here. Well, I know that #12 is Elton John with Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me... #20 seems to be Feel The Sun by Melanie C, since I happened to have that album on hand to check it out.

Ooh, and could #21 be Sun Street by Katrina & The Waves? I haven't heard that one in years, so it's a total guess.

Just to show that some of us have some Big Country songs...#1 is 1000 Stars. I knew it had to be one of them, but I couldn't remember how it started.

All correct including some canny guessing by alfvaen, with the added bonus that some faith has been restored re: the whole Big Country thang.
