AHH, I'm only just listening to the Marquee Moon link you posted. It's so perfect. Thank you!

!!! I love Leonard Cohen- that was a really excellent cover; thanks for sending it my way. I actually haven't listened to too much of Bradford Cox's stuff. I don't know why; I certainly have a lot of it. Perhaps a concerted effort on my part is in order.

So, I was trying to find out more about Mykki Blanco (I thought Join My Militia was particularly rad) and I came across these videos- http://vimeo.com/26475840. Doesn't he remind you of Chloe Sevigny in a weird way? Also, Grimes is so wonderful. I like her music a lot, but I also really like the way that she talks about herself. http://pitchfork.com/features/interviews/8774-grimes/ Particularly the answer about being "patently girly" (or not). Also, I think it's really interesting/bizarre that it seems like "tumblr aesthetic" is a thing now. And because you wrote me a list, I seem to be writing you a list... I haven't really clicked with Animal Collective before. I've listened to a bunch of their stuff once and haven't felt like listening again, but I was really into Fickle Cycle. It reminded me of High Places (who are probably actually influenced by Animal Collective, but whatever). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwBH7qe2jS0 I saw them play in San Francisco and it was totally magnetic

But then… Elephant! He tapped out the beat of ‘Seven Nation Army’ in algebra, walked home listening to ‘There’s No Home For You Here’. Contemplated the, we’ll say, eroticism, of ‘Ball & Biscuit’ with his friends and left ‘You’ve Got Her in Your Pocket’ on repeat thinking about whether to accept Erin’s invitation to the dance. A peculiar gesture, perhaps only familiar to teenage boys who fancy themselves sensitive and consider feminism to consist in always asking girls you were going steady with if you could hold their hand. How big everything seemed, and how small. It couldn’t last, of course. Perspectives shift. Marriages end. Kids grow up. At the time, though, the White Stripes were just what music was and music was his life. Now? He lets the sound wash over an empty room in order to build up his cool, too busy to care about what he once loved.

“Like anything about my life isn’t phony”, sighed Jack Ipseity, barely a schoolboy but one who had already begun to fully indulge in the neuroses natural to his suburban upbringing. It hadn’t always been this way. There was a time when he had listened, not merely let the sound encase him like an iron maiden of the soul, no, but had really listened to the music. Oh, he loved even to reminisce about how it was then. Who was it that he had first fallen in love with? Green Day? Radiohead? No. It was the White Stripes, wasn’t it? Ah yes. He had discovered them through his sister, on their way to visit some siblings and a few nieces. A frequent trip when he was in middle school. She gave to him De Stilj and White Blood Cells, and soon enough, their charming self-titled. He devoured it all.
