Hello, and so sorry for being late in answering your shout! I actually love Indian music much more than what shows on (Not only due to a former life there... ;)) DO remind me to, if you feel like it, to hook up to your radio station. What is the easiest? On facebook, or?

Hi Ejay - sorry to take so long to respond - have been working so much...Shankar & Shankar were wonderful. I lost count of how many standing ovations they received. He is going to be 90 in the new year but his fingers still move with the speed and grace of a butterfly. Amazing. I like the studio photographer you have - what a great job to photograph artists! That inspired me to think outside the box of what I can do - thank you. The documentary my father made is called "The Music of Man" he made with Yehudi Menuhin for the CBC years ago. Ravi Shankar was filmed for one of the episodes. It's almost impossible to find now but here is a link to explain more about it. I wish I had a copy - I would send it to you. Would love to hear - how was Talvin Singh? Be well. Namaste. Melis

Thanks for the links Ejay - I really enjoyed them! I have been a fan of Indian music since I was 15 - my dad was making a documentary featuring Ravi Shankar who played his sitar for me while the camera crew was setting set up the lights & equipment etc. It was the most magical musical experience of my life and I have been hooked on Indian music ever since :) I see you have listed Talvin Singh in your events - I saw him in Bristol some years ago - if you se him in Germany I would love to hear about it. I have often thought of becoming a photojournalist - like you - I want to learn about everything! Here is a a clip of one of my favorite artists - Debashish Bhattacharya playing classical slide guitar. Happy listening! Melis

Wow, you seem to be really immersed in Indian music. That can be a very positive obsession - like mine :-) Check out "Raga Gorakh Kalyan" by Shivkumar Sharma!

Hello and thanks Ejay - I'm here enjoying your playlist. I too have a deep love for Indian music and all kinds of South Asian inspired sounds. I am going to see Ravi & Anouska Shankar at Carnegie Hall next weekend. I have seen them apart many times but never on stage together and am excited. Also - this Sunday is the Deepavali festival in NYC - lot's of traditional music, dance, good food and a street Bhanga party at night - I go every year - it's so much fun. I look forward to checking out your website and radio show - thanks again!

i think that was the second and last time i saw her. the all-night carnatic music gatherings are wonderful by the way, every time i've gone, i've left feeling amazingly refreshed. warm regards to you as well. carnatic music is often overlooked by many musicians steeped in western culture(s), it's great that you and the folks of imc onair are working to expose more people to it.

Greetings. While I've an eclectic taste for sure, I never really got into real 'ragas' until I picked up a few from a user called "they-are-sweeter' (or something like that; she's in my friends list). I find the ragas great music to paint or write to. Best wishes.

nice to meet you too :-) thank you, I learned a lot about Indian classical music since I started listening Boris Grebentshikov and this band "Aquarium". Amazing music. I hope to expand my tastes in this area. ;-)

I'm little bit a fellow of unique sound; most favorite is any kind of music style linked with Indian Classical Music (ICM) from North India (Hindustani) and South India (Carnatic)...

... and it's a great pleasure to share my love for ICM with my listeners, many different artists, musicians... within my monthly radio show for Indian (Music) Culture I am "on air" for more than 4 1/2 years round about... and now here with you @ Last.Fm. - Might be a good start for 2011.

Anyhow... Enjoy listening to good music!

Musical Greetings...
