I'm not in any way trying to invalidate your interpretation. The fantastic thing about music is that it can mean different things to different people. All I'm trying to say is that you chose to read really far into this song and I have not. And because of that, I can no longer keep up with you in this debate.

well that makes this conversation interesting eh?

J dog, you're reading WAY WAY too much into the song. Only the most avid of Modest Mouse fans would even have any sort of retort for your lengthy comment. And I would never consider myself to be an "avid" fan. And as such, I have not retort. 3:49.

(refer to the one below)...gs and keeps repeating it with that hopeful tune...the more you hear it the more convincing it is...It's like he's either trying to convince her or convince himself and it feels good. The ending feels good to me anyways...the music isn't so dark and difficult to listen to anymore and just relieves all that...then the album goes to a more upbeat song about things we want to do with our lives and getting there. (people as places as people...we were the places we wanted to go, we're the people we wanted to know... which connects to black cadillacs, "we named our children after towns we never been" and I could write another essay about that too.

(start reading one below) ...of sorts. Then the next bit you can figure yourself. I have an opinion on what it means but I can see other interpretations. I also like the "if the damned gave us a road mad you'd know exactly where to go" like she would recognize all the streets and turns and such. Then food and trash. trying to bring in food/life while taking out what's decadent/trash/dead at the same time which leaves you doing neither "leaves us motionless" Then He seems to be alluding to some fight "what a horrible thing to say" etc etc then says I didn't mean to bite you (which seems to me like a venomous snake cuz there are snakes that spit venom which seems to allude to satan and the garden of eden but it probably is just anything with a venomous bite. I do recall Isaac hating religion) then back to let it all drop...trying to let the effect drop away or trying to drop the venomous words or what not... then the music drops off and the hopeful tune comes in and trying to amend wron

Maybe...First I know I am biased cuz I love modest mouse but hear me out on why we need all of it...first of all, musically I think he's done a good job. The music builds with the lyrics and dies with the music...Lyrically He introduces that the song is about saying things that tear tear people down or poison them or what not with spitting venom. After he introduces the topic... I dig how he used "waiting for a train looking one way" the idea of looking one direction (I don't know if it's looking to the past or present but they're thinking into the past or future and have some sort of fight where it ends up as spitting venom. I'm guessing past cuz he mentions she's keeping "track" which is a clever way to play with the whole train thing. It's like every thing they did wrong, she laid down a track and they're waiting for the train of her tracks) He then talks about how they were walking blind "canes tapping in front" and the rest is kinda obvious in that little bit. Another disagreement

I know where you're coming from. I can definitely see your point, but simply put, it's not a good enough song to keep me enthralled for 9 minutes. Few songs are. If you're gonna release a song that's ten minutes long, it better be fantastic. And i just don't think that spitting venom is that spectacular. 3:49. Still my verdict.

That song would be perfect if it were 3:49 long. That's my verdict.
