Band of the week countdown - #49

Along with my countdown of top 365 songs, I'll be running a band/artist of the week countdown as well. This list is also based on my Last.fm charts: it's my top 52 artists (as of January 3rd 2015).

49. Baroness

Baroness is a sludge/stoner rock band from Savannah, Georgia. Just like some other great stoner bands hailing from that area (Kylesa, Black Tusk, Circle Takes The Square for example), they kick ass big time.

My first touch of the band was Blue Record. Being a Mastodon-fan it was pretty easy to get into them and like that album.

For the odd ear all those bands mentioned above sound quite the same. But Baroness is the most melodic out of that bunch and probably the "lightest".

What's also worth mentioning, is that their singer/guitarist John Baizley does all their album cover art and has done some work for other bands too (Kvelertak, Kylesa, Black Tusk etc.). He has a pretty recognizable style, I suggest you go check out his work.

Personal highlight: The Sweetest Curse (from the album Blue Record)
Other recommendations: Teiresias, Rays On Pinion, Isak, Wanderlust, Swollen And Halo, A Horse Called Colgotha, March To The Sea, Cocainium, Sea Lungs
Favourite album: Blue Record (2009)
Times seen live: 2
