As I've had several requests, here are my favourite records from 2005, arranged in rough order of preference. Eliminated from the running, as much as I love it, was Fidgital's own Renovations. I was just a little too close to it to allow it into the list. ;)

1 - Jaga Jazzist - What We Must
2 - Matthew Herbert - Plat du Jour
3 - The Herbaliser - Take London
4 - Jamie Lidell - Multiply
5 - Kammerflimmer Kollektief - Absencen
6 - Gorillaz - Demon Days
7 - New Order - Waiting for the Sirens' Call
8 - Kronos Quartet and Asha Bhosle - You've Stolen My Heart
9 - Erasure - Nightbird
10 - Moby - Hotel Ambient
11 - Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
12 - M.I.A. - Arular
13 - Skalpel - Konfusion
14 - DZihan & Kamien - Fakes
15 - Blackalicious - The Craft
16 - The Go! Team - Thunder Lightning Strike
17 - Boards of Canada - The Campfire Headphase
18 - Pest - All Out Fall Out
19 - Blockhead - Downtown Science
20 - Hoppy Kamiyama - A Meaningful Meaninglessness

Lots of great records didn't quite make the list, probably your favourites. Ah, but, then, this list isn't meant to please everybody. Still, if you like some of these records, you're bound to like more.

Cheers!

Great list! I am glad to see someone mention Blackalicious. I love their earlier work although I have not heard The Craft. I'm currently searching for the limited Vinyl LP of Imperial Brut Quartet -Fakes I believe they only made 1000 copies. Ordered Plat du jour from the website but have not listened to it yet. As usual, you have listed a few artists I have not heard of; but that will soon be remedied. Thanks, AF.

Nice list - thumbs up again on the Blackalicious! I am curious about the Herbaliser album - have only heard the track he did with Roots Manuva but rate it very highly indeed.

Yeah The Herbaliser are awesome. We opened up for them during their Canadian tour last year, which was an unbelievable honour. Their last two albums - Take London and Something Wicked This Way Comes - are both masterpieces combining hip hop and live funk. Definitely check them out.

The Herb are great. Take London was a good album. I'm still a big fan on Blow Your Headphones. I'm gonna have to get my hands on a Fidgital album. I feel pretty rude for lurking on your journal pages and not even sampling your music. I'm gonna listen to your '05 set this weekend. I'm looking forward.

Thanks Mortstar! Hey we're gonna do a one-week special free download of our entire new album Vintage Red. I'll provide the secret URL on Last.fm so look for it. It'll start in a week and probably go until the end of the month - just gotta get more people exposed to our tunes!

Rats! One week isn't long enough to put it on Free Albums Galore;) Oh well. I'm gonna have to listen to your album too since I really like your top 20 list. [b]The Craft{/b] is definitely one of the best CDs of the year.

I'm being penickety here, since this is a wicked list, but didn't Thunder Lightning Strike come out in 2004? ;)
