Happy Birthday + A More Inquisitive Survey

9 Ene 2010, 0:10

First of all, I'd like to say Happy Birthday to some musicians/singers that have been important to my life thus far:

1. Elvis Presley (would have been 75) - Grew up listening to his music quite a lot via the radio, my dad playing his stuff on the guitar (he's a big fan of Elvis), and putting the Lilo and Stitch Original Soundtrack on repeat when I got it back in 2002. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I greatly admire all that he's done and how he changed not just rock 'n roll, but music as we know it. I even did a project on him back in middle school thanks to the influence my parents and the CD put upon me. He's also been greatly admired by...

2. David Bowie (63) - Ah. Bowie. If it weren't for those two concerts I saw on TV this past summer, a couple of interviews on YouTube, and my dad constantly strumming the opening chords to Space Oddity, I wouldn't be writing this right now. He's been a great inspiration and hero to me ever since I got into him back in September. He may not be doing much in the field of music (or so I hear) as I'm writing this, but whatever he's doing, I hope he takes some time out of his schedule to enjoy himself and his family and look back at all he's accomplished.

3. Robby Krieger (64) - I didn't know it was Krieger's birthday until I found a list of famous people who were born on this day. I almost forgot to wish the guitarist of one of my favorite bands a Happy Birthday! I managed to leave him a post on his Facebook page, though. This man can write quite a melody and can play a mean flamenco guitar solo. Listen to the tracks Spanish Caravan and the middle guitar solo in Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor and you'll know what I mean. I hope he enjoys his day and that he and Ray Manzerek bring their show to the East Coast.

With that out of the way, I'll move on to another survey...
