Bad Boy Rock Star Pete Doherty Lives To Shock

New York, NY—With the recent release of the second Baby shambles album, Shotter’s Nation, bad boy rock star Pete Doherty, formerly of The Libertines, has made good on a promise to fans…to stay alive long enough to record and perform at an all-out level. To that end, the Nov. 13 Eagle Vision release of Live In Manchester by Baby Shambles is visual proof-positive that Doherty got a good start, and was, at least at the time of this show, alive and well enough to riproar through 18 songs in 89 minutes [retail: $14.98].

Shot in September of 2004, Live In Manchester captures the British garage band in all its youthful zeal at one of its first gigs, performing material mainly from their Down With Albion debut as well as Libertines tracks and otherwise unreleased gems. Singer/songwriter Dot Allison shares the stage for six songs.

The handsome packaging comes complete with some Doherty behind-the-scenes antics as well as solo acoustic performances and clips from other shows.

EAGLE VISION TO RELEASE LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY BY Eminem NOVEMBER 13

Highly Anticipated Madison Square Garden Concert Finally Gets DVD Debut

New York, NY—Eagle Vision will release Live In New York City by Eminem on November 13 [retail: $14.98, running time: 90 minutes]. The 2005 Madison Square Garden concert was the culmination of the Detroit rapper’s “Farewell Tour.” The spectacular multi-level staging, lighting, sound, choreography and guest appearances from D12, Obie Trice and Stat Quo helped the show to become a winner with fans, critics and viewers who saw it upon its original Showtime Cable Network broadcast. Now, for the first time, it is available in DVD format.

Eminem—born Marshall Mathers in Missouri—was discovered by Dr. Dre. It took four years but upon building an alter ego for himself called Slim Shady, Eminem, in 1999, became notorious with his bitter, controversial rhymes deemed misogynist, homophobic and outwardly antagonistic towards the media and his mother. The backlash, though, just fueled his artistry as subsequent albums became more and more violent in their imagery, and Eminem went on to become the biggest crossover hiphop artist since his mentor, Dr. Dre, a decade earlier.

  • EAGLE TO RELEASE MORE MONTREUX GEMS ON SEPTEMBER 4—ISAAC HAYES AND YES—FROM…

    29 Ago 2007, 15:50

’03 Yes set Finally Makes 2-CD Debut! Stax Legend Hayes gets DVD Treatment from ’05 Backed By Booker T & The MGs!

New York, NY—Eagle Rock Entertainment will open its Montreux vault again on September 4 when it releases Yes Live At Montreux 2003 as a 2-CD set. Yes has had a long history in this Swiss town of recording many of its classic 1970s albums there. Yet a palpable sense of expectancy hovered above the stage as Yes debuted at the 2003 Montreux Jazz Festival with arguably its greatest lineup ever of singer Jon Anderson, guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire, keyboardist Rick Wakeman and drummer Alan White.

Eighteen songs spanning over 40 years from a band still at the height of its artistic power came to almost magical fruition when ageless singer Anderson counted off to the show-ending “Roundabout” sending thousands of already on-their-feet music fans into a dizzying rapture. Yes historians and the band itself have long regarded this particular gig as probably the finest singular show ever to be caught for posterity. It had been held up for years before Eagle was able to release it on DVD in late ’06. Now, with the release of this 2-CD set, more prog-rock enthusiasts and casual fans can understand why Yes, above all others, can claim itself as the ultimate Progressive Rock purveyor.

Influential soul legend Isaac Hayes has been enjoying a career renaissance of late what with the reactivation of the Stax Records label in Memphis. It was there where he cut his greatest sides and also helped on some of the legendary hits of other artists since the 1960s. Author of the Grammy Award-winning theme to the Oscar Award winning Shaft…creator of one of the greatest soul albums in the history of rhythm’n’blues (1969’s Hot Buttered Soul)…voice of South Park’s Chef, Hayes has transcended his bountiful soul into becoming an American icon. The extended encore—when he is joined by Booker T & The MGs—is a veritable lesson in soul history as it encompasses many of the songs for other artists that Hayes had a hand in creating including Sam & Dave’s “Soul Man” and many others. The 133-minute DVD carries a $14.98 retail price.
  • TAKE A TRIP BACK IN TIME TO SAN FRANCISCO’S FAMILY DOG

    24 Jul 2007, 16:46

The Ultimate 1960s Venue, with Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead & Santana, Gets DVD Treatment Complete with Upgraded Sound On August 7 Eagle Release

New York, NY— (July 16, 2007) Put a flower in your hair, we’re all hippies again! The generation that changed the world will get to do it all over again on August 7 when Eagle Vision releases Ralph J. Gleason Presents A Night At The Family Dog on DVD. The concert, held on February 4, 1970, featured the brightest three lights of the Bay Area, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead and Santana. These three bands would define a scene that had the whole world wondering what exactly was going on in the Haight-Ashbury section of San Francisco.

It was a time of wild experimentation. Poetry, music, film, journalism and political activism shared the spotlight as American Culture itself began to shapeshift into forms heretofore unknown. The internationally renowned Ralph J. Gleason—the world’s first syndicated jazz critic and one of the founding fathers of modern rock journalism—instinctively knew the new music would grow and become a world-changer. Besides co-founding Rolling Stone to seriously cover for the first time this new sound and lifestyle, he also produced several television specials to tell and show Middle America what the Bay Area youth were up to. Night At The Family Dog first aired on December 13, 1970 on The National Educational Television Network.

Carlos Santana and his band were riding high on the wave of their classic 1969 self-titled debut. Their second album had yet to be released. Grateful Dead was already four albums strong. Their fifth, Working Man’s Dead would be released in May. The band was at the height of its power, with keyboardist Ron “Pigpen” McKernan still alive. Jefferson Airplane was the headliner, at that time the biggest band in the land. Volunteers, their politically-charged sixth album, had yet to be released.

The 60-minute show (retail $14.98) features “Incident at Neshabur” and “Soul Sacrifice” by Santana, “Hard to Handle,” “China Cat Sunflower” and “I Know You Rider” by The Dead, “The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil” and “Eskimo Blue Day” by Jefferson Airplane before a psychedelic jam with all three bands plus members of Quicksilver Messenger Service and The Steve Miller Band! The event itself was a private party, not open to the public, and only because of Ralph J. Gleason’s sterling reputation was the event allowed to be videotaped for posterity. The original mono sound has been amply upgraded into Extrapolated 5.1 Surround-Sound.
  • PAUL RODGERS’ DEBUT SOLO DVD ‘LIVE IN GLASGOW’ IS #1 ON CANADIAN MUSIC DVD…

    24 Jul 2007, 16:35

Paul Rodgers has been, and still is by far, one of the finest talents of our musical genre.” – Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, 2007

Platinum-selling musical icon Paul Rodgers has achieved yet another landmark success north of the border; Rodgers’ debut solo DVD ‘Live In Glasgow’ (May 29, Eagle Rock Entertainment) reached #1 on Canada’s music DVD SoundScan charts for the week ending July 15.

"Congratulations and thanks to the fans who have kept my music alive for 39 years and embraced the new songs along the way. I'm knocked out," Rodgers commented yesterday.

‘Live In Glasgow’ -- recorded in October of 2006 on the last date of his Sold Out UK tour (which included a date at London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall) -- is stunning proof that Rodgers' voice and performance is as strong as ever. This 135-minute DVD, shot with 13 cameras, includes brand new songs “Warboys (A Prayer for Peace)” and "Far Distant Shore," as well as songs he has not performed in 35 years, and many of his hits, including “All Right Now,” “Feel Like Making Love” and “Can’t Get Enough.” Soulful, bluesy, swaggering, he belts out his songs, and also plays piano and guitar. The band: guitarist Howard Leese (Heart), bassist Lynn Sorenson, drummer Ryan Hoyle (Collective Soul) and introducing 17-year old guitar prodigy Kurtis Dengler.

Rodgers’ growing resume reads like a rock history lesson. This platinum-selling singer, songwriter, and self-taught multi-instrumentalist has written, recorded, produced, and released 28 albums. He found and led three bands to International Success: Free (1968-1973), Bad Company (1974-1982), and The Firm with Jimmy Page (1984-1986), and now enjoys a Grammy nominated solo career. In 2005-06 he joined forces with Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor for the successful Queen + Paul Rodgers World Tour, performing songs from both of their catalogues, plus Rodgers’ new song, “Take Love.”

He continues to tour and record internationally as a solo artist and as Queen + Paul Rodgers. For more information, please visit www.paulrodgers.com.

‘Live In Glasgow’ was also released on CD April 24 via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

  • ROSIE O'DONNELL FALLS FOR THE DRESDEN DOLLS -

    3 Jul 2007, 17:04

Fresh from her dispute with, well, it seems like pretty much everyone, Rosie O'Donnell is falling for the Dresden Dolls. Specifically, Brian Viglione. In a haikuesque posting to www.rosie.com, the former talk show host and stand up comic had this to say after seeing the Dresden Dolls on the True Colors tour with Cyndi Lauper:

    met the DRESDEN DOLLS
    who r beyond brilliant

    divine magic

Rosie has also posted a short video clip featuring the Dresden Dolls.

  • THE DRESDEN DOLLS BRING THEIR THEATRICS TO LONDON

    19 Jun 2007, 19:53

    ~ON DVD JULY 10~

New York, NY – On July 10, Eagle Vision (the wholly-owned subsidiary of Eagle Rock Entertainment) will release The Dresden Dolls – Live At The Roundhouse, London on DVD. Priced at $14.98, the 134-minute DVD captures the essence of this totally unconventional Boston act performing at the recently restored Roundhouse Theatre in London.

The theatrical duo of Amanda Palmer (vocals, piano) and Brian Viglione (guitar, drums) formed in 2001. Constructing a concoction that they affectionately refer to as “Brechtian Punk Cabaret,” The Dresden Dolls became a musical enigma, blending alt-rock, blues, and 1930s German Cabaret. The haunting alto voice of Palmer delivers a sarcastic and biting tone, fostering the themes of their quirky lyricism. Not all acts choose to write about sex changes or the need of a vapid boy-toy (“Coin-Operated Boy”), but it’s their use of imagery, their twisted sense of love, and their peculiar way of expressing themselves that keeps a loyal cult following coming back for more.

Bringing the elements of their music to the stage, the set features a blend of straight-up musicianship that siphons in elements of the theatre in a strangely calculated manner. The painted faces of Palmer and Viglione, accentuated with their 1930’s Cabaret garb, creates an experience reminiscent of the darkest shades of Broadway. Every once in a while, performance artists and dancers will appear in and around the stage and theater, adding their own interpretations and creating an environment of Vaudevillian theatre. But before things get too pretentious, the pendulum swings and Palmer rocks out, banging her keys relentlessly while staying unapologetically heart-felt on ballads such as “Slide." Meanwhile, Viglione drives a heavy pulse that causes the other characters onstage to come alive as if charmed by his hypnotic rhythms. The pure simplicity of these two creates an alternate reality on stage, as if their presence and sound alone is enough to bring the house down.

Along with their performance, the DVD features a 26-minute documentary on the making of the larger-than-life show. Watching the love and international camaraderie behind the scenes (some performance groups came from as far as Australia to join the show), one fully grasps how the whimsical and DIY world of The Dresden Dolls draws folks from every walk of life and continues to fuel curiosity into new fans by the minute.

  • Armoury Records To Release Live Napalm Death Album on June 12

    6 Jun 2007, 15:17

Punishment In Capitals Finally Available In States For The First Time

New York, NY—Long sought after as a collectors’ import item, Napalm Death’s 28-track live album, Punishment In Capitals, is finally being released for the first time in the United States by Armoury Records, (distributed stateside by Eagle Rock Entertainment) on June 12 (prebook date: May 18/$13.98).

This deathball of metal history, recorded in 2003 London at the ULU, features vocalist Barney Greenway, guitarists Mitch Harris/Jesse Pintado, bassist Shane Embry and drummer Danny Herera at the height of their stonecold headbanging heaviness…a solid hour of such.

Epitomizing the essence of what came to be known as “grindcore,” Napalm Death was born in Birmingham, England in 1981. Running out of original members by the time its second album came out, the band at first consisted of a revolving door of thrash and hardcore luminaries, many who have gone on to form other such bands as Carcass, Godflesh, Cathedral and others. The current lineup, though, has been solvent since ’91, sans Pintado, who passed away in 1996.

Eagle Rock Entertainment develops, acquires and produces music programming for a wide range of notable and high profile artists, which the company distributes on a worldwide basis. Eagle Rock Entertainment, Eagle Vision and Eagle Eye Media are wholly owned divisions of Eagle Rock Group, LTD.
