HOTTEST 100

I finally got my list from 50 to just 10 tracks. What a task, so many great artists and so many great songs to choose from. Here is the finally selection:

Bloc Party - Trojan Horse

Intimacy, why did I ever doubt the best band of this decade? I thought it would dissapoint me after hearing Mercury. Even after Ares I still thought they had lost it. None the less, they brought me back to my senses. Sure it is nothing compared to Silent Alarm or A Weekend in the City but it is still pure class and one of the best albums of the year. Trojan Horse was the song that stood out from the rest and took the vote just ahead of Halo.

Cut Copy - Out There On The Ice

and
Cut Copy - Unforgettable Season

I could have easily voted for every song from In Ghost Colours this year and I would have been satisfied with the decision. It was the best album of 2008. Unfortunately there were so many more to choose from and I had to nail it down to just two.

Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! - War Coward

The best song of 2008 by the best band of 2008. I was first introduced to these guys when they supported Yves Klein Blue and The Holidays and have been in love since. If you haven't seen these guys live, DO IT! If you haven't bought their EP Boy, Hush Yr Mouth. Grrl, Bare Yr Teeth, DO IT! If you haven't had a dream about playing in a band with David, Sam, Art, Josh and Caitlin, DO IT! If you have never heard of them have a look HERE. Trust me, it will change your life.

Foals - Baloons

Foals released the best debut album of 2008 when they released Antidotes earlier this year. With their catchy math rock tunes they are sure to turn many heads in the future. A tour of Australia in 2009 would be a dream :)

Sigur Rós - Inní mér syngur vitleysingur

To be honest at first glance I didn't see the true beauty of Sigur Rós. However now, thanks to a good friend (you know who you are), they are one of my favourite bands. Their set at Splendour in the Grass 2008 was absolutely mind-boggling and anyone who witnessed it and was not moved has a problem. Every note strikes a different emotion, they are the true meaning of the work amazing.

Tokyo Police Club - Tessellate

In just over two and a half minutes this track displays everything that is Tokyo Police Club. Short and catchy rock/pop at it's best. Elephant Shell is another standout debut album that will surely be followed by brilliant album after brilliant album.

Vampire Weekend - A-Punk

Another debut album which features in my votes for the TripleJ Hottest 100 is Vampire Weekend. A-Punk took my vote just ahead of Oxford Comma, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, M79 and One (Blake's Got A New Face).

The Wombats - Lost in the Post

and
The Wombats - Backfire At The Disco

The Liverpudlian trio that is The Wombats have started to mark their territory in the word of British pop/rock. Those who claimed they were one-hit wonders with Let's Dance To Joy Division were wrong. Anyone who doubts The Wombats can put on a fantastic live show are also incorrect. These follow ups to Kill The Director and Moving To New York are equally as good. The build up to the end of Backfire At The Disco is epic and their sophomore album is bound to be brilliant after hearing a few of the new tracks they have ready for it!

So there is my list, and there are so many that just missed out. Those that deserve a mention include Yves Klein Blue, Lightspeed Champion, Albert Hammond, Jr., Born Ruffians, Late of the Pier and The Kills.

Unfortunately we all know that the winner is going to be out of Kings of Leon, MGMT and The Ting Tings but I have done all I can.
