Haha just saw your post on Trower's page. I didn't even realize he was still making music. Been in love with Bridge of Sighs forever but never branched out from there. Def gonna give some of his new stuff a try.

Sheesh, what is it with my favorite bands changing in ways I don't understand? Katatonia goes too alt, Opeth goes too dad-prog, October Tide goes too death... Give me a break!

I'm pretty sure that the fans who praise the new album so much are not the same fans they've had years ago. With each change, a band usually loses some fans, but gains some new ones. That's only natural. But, all in all, I agree - they do sound more generic nowadays, and that's actually why they have so many new fans now - modern mainstream alternative metal is popular because it's simple and easy to digest. They got too carried away with integrating it into their sound - now there's hardly anything else left. If they want to change their sound - fine by me. What I have a problem with is the direction they're going.

I am sure that it will be worth waiting for! I wonder how long it will take for the next Tool album after this one? Until 2020? ;)

Yeah, Night Is The New Day was quite an experiment - which was the best thing about it! It was pretty varied, and that made it special. Dead End Kings is the opposite - it's too "regular". That's what I didn't like. It feels like they could just leave the artwork blank and put a sticker on the packaging that says "Album. Generic Katatonia". Regarding the vocal style, what I meant was that Jonas' way of singing is now this same style he does often since TGCD. Not just the voice, but this sporadic word flow, I don't know how to explain it. It's just like no matter what the song is, he sings it the same way. Anyway, I like his vocals the most on Discouraged Ones, they're so cold and distant, and together with Mikael Åkerfeldt it's the best thing ever. After that he went all whiny Robert Smith style on Tonight's Decision and Last Fair Deal, until he kinda settled down on Viva Emptiness. And now he sings like he's bored and words just fall out of his mouth. Eh... he should lose some weight.

Dankeschön! You too have a good taste in music. I need to listen to Tool more often though. Hopefully their new album will finally come out this year.

So what do you think about Dead End Kings? I was quite disappointed with it because it was so monotonous. Night Is The New Day was really varied, this one... not so much. Same old Jonas' whining with the same vocal style and TGCD-like riffs... I think even TGCD was better :(

Hey, yeah it did take a while to adjust, but I'm liking the album quite a lot. I still prefer the feel of Damnation though. I'm going to see Opeth in December, for the first time, and I'm really looking forward to it ^^. Yup, I listen to parts of the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack, though I've never played it. Have you ever heard Matt Uelmen, who did the Diablo 2 soundtrack? That's quite something... especially 'Rogue', 'Tristram' and 'Desert'.

It's hard to pick one...I like Bites very much. It's true classic and movie samples make me shiver. 2nd place for Too Dark Park - very twisted music and The Process - last album with Goettel.
