what life stuff? (if it's not too personal for you to answer) lol i'll probably be procrastinating from my work during those 3 weeks so there will be nothing but fun :)

icr if you've mentioned it before -- what are you ultimately aiming to achieve by learning all this? a new job? oh no, these are only my first assignments of the semester. there's another 7 weeks and two more essays left (and i have a 3 week break sometime during that lol) but still, that's a short time :(

good for you! is it difficult? i've not really been up to much. uni's kind of a drag... so many assignments are due within the next 4 weeks. i'm simultaneously looking forward to finishing uni and dreading it lol

hey loa!! yeah, i never got around to watching toys lol been too distracted. been up to much?

  • samanthur

i've got it now, i think i'll watch it tomorrow for sure!!

it's on my list but idk if i can handle robin williams without being in a tolerant mood for his acting. yeah she's weird... but quirky weird! i really like her too. in everything i've seen her in, she's always a similar kind of character like OTT and maybe a little crazy.

all the songs on that album have a similar sound, so you might like them all if you like that one. i watched a trailer for toys and i'm thinking about watching it sometime now lmfao JOAN CUSACK IS IN IT did you go through a cusack phase or is this just coincidence

  • samanthur

yeah, a few of my fav artists were from other peoples suggestions. i'm tempted to recommend 'cults' to you but i'm really not sure if you'd like them. any song from their self-titled album is good if you wanna give them a listen though.

i listened to that jeff buckley song (and then snippets from a couple of others from the album 'grace') i am now getting that album bc i do like it!

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

LOL i may because i've liked all the movies i've seen of his so far, plus younger john cusack is a babe. i only have a tv and anime list, but sometimes i feel like watching a movie so i should probably make a list for that too. SO MANY LISTS. i don't think i have anything worthy of a recommendation for you right now!

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

i see! lmao i loved his character, he was so mopey and cynical. well the trope thing explains it, but it still doesn't explain why it just seems to be john cusack i've seen taking a phone call in the rain!

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

LOL how do you see yourself in him? also what is it about phone calls in the drenching rain with john cusack?! he did that in say anything as well. yes i definitely know a couple of people who are like him lmfao (to a lesser extent though).

good luck with it all, i don't know how extreme these obstacles you're talking about are, but i'm sure you can make it happen if you keep at it. i watched high fidelity and it was so good, music-wise it made me want to go through all of my library and weed out every single thing i'm not passionate about and then replace it all with better stuff. jack black reminded me of those people online who don't let you have an opinion that differs from theirs lmfao

  • samanthur

is your job to do with that computer related stuff then? i wish i had more of your motivation, i'm lazy and constantly procrastinating

i do care for your advice! and yeah, i think that would be a more positive approach. the only thing is i started reading a book after i had learned a lot about creative writing... and i just kept noticing every little flaw. every time they "told" where they could have "showed", the info-dumps, and the characters not really having much depth. i mean one of them died and i had no reaction at all -- i'm usually an emotional wreck if a good character dies. so i guess i'm just fearing it'll end up being like that, but then again the linguistic features of a story is different to the creative writing view of it all, so it might not so bad. what *should* you be studying? i don't really do much online, lastfm has been my focus lately. i just watch things and use sites like tumblr. anyway i need to sleep now bc i actually am gonna pass out so ttyl! (i'll reply to the inbox tomorrow 2)

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

LOL well i study "english and creative writing" so some of the modules are to do with creative writing. like right now i'm taking a linguistic module based on the fantasy and sci-fi genres, i just hope it doesn't ruin the way i read them because once you learn all the linguistic stuff it's really hard to stop yourself from noticing it in books. but yeah, in that module (it was called "writing genre fiction") we learnt loads of stuff about a variety of different genres like the conventions, tropes, sub-genres, and we studied some excerpts to determine what about them made them fit in that genre. stuff like that. i've inboxed you the concept of the story because the character limit here was too short! and yeah, i've truly messed up my sleeping pattern because i've been off uni this week. stupid illness. i doubt i'll be on this often or this late when i go back on monday :( what do you do when you're online anyways? (dang this is an essay)

  • samanthur

i don't think it makes you a geek, i would do it too if i could be bothered. cyberpunk, the sci-fi subgenre? we did it in one of my classes and for my assignment i wrote a story and tried to fit it in the cyberpunk genre lol i guess it was inspired by that matrix... NEUROMANCER OH MY GOD IT'S JUST CLICKED THAT'S WHERE I HEARD IT FROM, we studied the first chapter in that class lol. ik i'll go soon sighs :(

i just watched the trailer and it looks interesting, i'm getting it now. i'll watch it today (it's nearly 5am, i really should sleep). ah right, do you tend to think of themes for your playlists? like e.g. energetic music or calming?? lmao if you asked if i had any playlists i would have said yes, but GOOD playlists? nah. i have one on now, i didn't know what to title it so it's just "!!" and it's basically all of my indie pop / "dream pop" (that's what the most popular tags on here says it is lol) my playlists are so boring really

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

what playlists do you currently have? i don't know who rob gordon is :( i just googled it and saw it was a movie - is this something else i need to add to my list of things to watch lol & i'm alright just so bored and sick of being ill. you reminded me i need to finish making my valentines playlist, i'm ready for a day of songs that somehow relate to love and heartbreak and relationships

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

hey u, how are you today?

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

you don't sound like a weirdo, it's kind of noble actually. like i do the same with books i guess. i'd never illegally download those because a) i like holding and owning the physical copy and b) the author only makes like 8%-10% of sale price per book or something like that

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

if only you were willing to be a criminal and illegally download until you could afford it all!

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

what did you decide to buy?

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

you are too :) i'm glad i'm not the only one who's making new threads

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

yeah :') i have the great gatsby and a portrait of the artist as a young man on my bookshelf right now, maybe i'll begin with those... wow it's actually harder to post new threads than i thought, there's so much to think about, mainly: "is this too childish/lame for a forum with mainly adults?"

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

yeah, to be fair i've never actually tried to read any literary fiction outside of what i've had to do for education. so maybe i'm put off by it because it's always been associated with school for me?? i feel like i should give it a chance, because yeah artistic appreciation. thanks! i've heard of neuromancer before actually, i think it may have been something that george r. r. martin recommended somewhere

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

oo i've been wanting to get into more sci-fi stuff. are there any must-reads? i'm mainly into fantasy and a few modern sci-fi dystopian novels like the hunger games for example (which seem to be a trend right now so i guess you could say i'm into the popular stuff lol). ah right, i've never really read anything nonfiction, or even anything outside the fantasy genre really. i mean, you'd think with me studying english i'd be more into the classics and literary fiction in general but nope lol

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

i've not heard of any of those, but they're going on my anime to-watch list seeing as you've said they have good story lines! so i'm presuming you read books? fav genres, if you do?

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

yeah i'll check it out. i do like anime, but i've only ever watched things that were recommended to me, i've never sought out something to watch myself. so far i've seen death note & attack on titan. i started fullmetal alchemist, neon genesis evangelion, and naruto but i've kinda paused with those right now. do you like any of those? what are your favs?

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

yeah, i think not knowing the gender beforehand is interesting because you don't have those preconceived notions. do you watch anime? i got an anime vibe from your avatar idk

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

oh damn, well i was close... jk. i think it's more because you're the only person who i've talked to around the forum, i was like 'must be a fellow female GIRL POWER'. yeah i agree, i hate being the first to start conversations though because i always feel like i'm imposing, so thanks for getting that out of the way lol

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

i get it! i have an aversion to showing pictures or getting a bit too personal with people online. most users on lastfm seem to be more mature anyway, i think everyone i've talked to via inbox over the years has been over 30. are you female? i've just been presuming you are lmfao

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

LMAO yeah... that must have been it... i wasn't being dumb or skim reading! np i'm surprised i actually have an opinion, half the time i don't even know the artists' albums off by heart. anyways, how old are you, where are you from, and what should i call you??

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

hang on, i have no idea why i thought you said you had RAM? lol wtf RAM OR DISCOVERY.

    Febrero 2014
  • samanthur

well i would have recommended RAM but you already have it so definitely 'discovery'! it has some of their best songs imo: one more time, harder better faster stronger, digital love. RAM > discovery > alive 2007 > human after all > homework
