This week's reco is a cover of the old timey classic Wayfaring Stranger, brought to us by Jamie Woon and brought up to date by Burial.

There are a pages of different versions of this song in Last.fm as well as on other music streaming sites, ranging from what sounds like original bluegrass to pop. The must-hear version is by Burl Ives - Wayfaring Stranger.

From Wikipedia
It became one of Burl Ives's signature songs, included on his 1944 album The Wayfaring Stranger. Ives used it as the title of his early 1940s CBS radio show and his 1948 autobiography. He became known as "The Wayfaring Stranger."

I've heard some of these versions before, Neko Case's cover is on The Tigers Have Spoken which I heard in 2006, but it never hit home till now.

The song is spiritual, about the journey of life, with home being the final resting place itself.

Brit School boy Jamie Woon has a new single out now, Night Air [YouTube audio upload], ahead of his debut album, scheduled for spring next year. Of note is Night Air (Ramadanman Refix) [YouTube audio upload]. Abstract soul? Ambient soul? Soul gone wrong? Pared down, minimal, downtempo late night spacey sounds.
