In 2010 I was mostly interested in the Austrian indie scene which was (and still is) really interesting to me. The first band I heard of were Gary waaay back in 2007 or even earlier... and then I immediately heard about the Siluh Records, Numavi Records... that's how I got to know Killed By 9V Batteries and they really impressed me. So, through some friends I found out about more bands and that's how I spent the fall/winter checking out their scene.
Other than that, nothing special based on the music part happened. The Slovenian scene have expanded a little but it still needs MUCH more support.
Now about the albums of the year... I decided to make a TOP 20. I will not review the albums since it would take waaay too long.
1. LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
2. Menomena - Mines
3. Les Savy Fav - Root For Ruin
4. The National - High Violet
5. Beach House - Teen Dream
6. Tame Impala - Innerpeaker
7. Caribou - Swim
8. Zola Jesus - Stridulum II
9. Best Coast - Crazy For You
10. Xiu Xiu - Dear God, I Hate Myself
11. Autolux - Transit Transit
12. Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
13. Male Bonding - Nothing Hurts
14. Film School - Fission
15. Vampire Weekend - Contra
16. Wolf Parade - Expo 86
17. Former Ghosts - New Love
18. Male Bonding - Nothing Hurts
19. Of Montreal - False Priest
20. The Radio Dept. - Clinging To A Scheme
Yeasayer, Broken Social Scene and Small Black didn't make it. I really liked a couple of songs from Broken Social Scene record but album as a whole was too long for me. Maybe I'd like it more with time... but for now, definitely can't be in top 20.
Since I've seen some nice bands this year, I will list my favorite moments from them:
1. Joan of Arc @ Forum Stadtpark in Graz, Austria
The band played Shown And Told because I asked them to. So this is officially my favorite concert ever. I really love that song and it means so much to me.
2. Pavement @ Arena Wien in Vienna, Austria.
I really enjoyed We Dance, it was so beautiful. If you've seen Pavement on this year's tour you definitely know why I liked it so much. In general that Pavement show was really special to me since I never thought I'll see one of my all time favorite bands. I doubt anyone ever thought that they will reunite.
3. The National @ Kasematten in Graz, Austria.
Well, during their set, I think it was Mr. November, Matt went into the crowd and I managed to caress his face. I know this sounds really stupid and teenage but it was nice... also when the band played Abel it was... whoah... beyond words!
4. Dan Deacon @ K4 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Now this was the best party of the year! If you've seen Deacon live, you know exactly what I mean. The venue was completely crowded, we danced like idiots and I absolutely loved the little dance contest thingy. I think everyone was a bit disappointed because he didn't play Snookered :( I also got to meet him after the show, took a picture with him and got an autograph (haha!).
5. No Age @ Menza pri koritu in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Their show was one of the loudest shows I've ever been to. Whoaaaah. Also very partypartyparty. I somehow really enjoyed the song Life Prowler and was a little bit disappointed how Glitter sounded live :( Also this night was one of the strangest in my entire life xD
I also really enjoyed the Health show @ Forum Stadtpark in Graz, Austria. The band has a lot of energy.
Did I enjoy 2010 more than 2009? Maybe... but nothing can top some of the 2009 moments I had ;)
