Nobody said anything about 'only'. I mean I listen to a lot of the same looneys as you do, apparently - they don't all have to be grand vegans. There are other people with certain talents too. ;o) That said, personal beliefs are there for a reason. Nothing stops people from continuing to question their beliefs and coming to new insights. But there's nothing wrong with reinforcing your beliefs if it makes sense to do so. What's more, like I said it isn't just about belief but about whatever else affects you too. That's not too hard to grasp I reckon.

"Actively seeking out music which has "relevance to your life" and consuming it primarily because it articulates something about your life or your personal beliefs is frankly disgusting." Typical this. 'Relevance to one's life' is all-encompassing so it's an illusion to think you can enjoy music (or anything for that matter) for reasons other than that since nothing goes beyond. It makes perfect sense for people to enjoy music because of some sort of recognition, a means of identification or simply to appreciate the emotions it conjures up. Music is supposed to hit certain (emotional) strings, convey feelings of a kind, all of which have relevance to your life. It takes a mindless automaton to not understand this. Cool Ass Tortoises should now better.

@noo_dog: funny, the only thing I find kind of embarrassing about vegan straight edge is hardcore music itself and especially what comes off like pretentious macho bullshit in the way the message is (supposed to be) delivered. While I'm sure it can be the product of sincere emotions I don't exactly see it as a positive way of communication. But then again, it appeals to some apparently. Even some, it turns out, that don't actually get it. Talking about rational thought though, I have yet to find the first person having any sensible rational argument against veganism. Sure you'll have your flawed logic in 'vehemently disagreeing' with acts of compassion but that doesn't really cut it now does it?

wooooooooorst shoutbox. I would however like to say that even though I vehemently disagree with the vegan position (and the straight edge viewpoint, the animal liberation viewpoint etc.), I find Vegan Straight Edge Hardcore/Metalcore very interesting, because the music (particularly the vocals) are delivered with a frightening conviction and sincerity that just isn't found among most hardcore scenes. The unwavering hardline attitude really comes out in the music, and despite its irrational and stubborn ugliness, it is an awesome force to behold.

people can be such brats about tagging. whats the big deal if people want to listen to music about veganism if they're vegan. All this tag does is makes music about veganism easier to find, just because you're not interested in veganism doesn't mean it's a 'stupid tag'. People use tags to find music that applies to them, genre freaks need to cool the fuck down just because people are using ones that havn't been established in the music press their entire lives. ( 2) I totally agree tag what you want, no one else has to use it if they dont want too.

being vegan is about taking a stand.. it makes sense to have a tag about it because it is a purposeful restriction whereas omnivory is in fact just the default position most people have, it's the common ground. it's a political choice to be vegan. there's tons of political music and there's nothing wrong with it being tagged politically. analagously it would make sense to have white power music tagged as such, whereas tagging things as "not white power" would be ridiculous.

Hitler wasn't a vegan or even a vegetarian, in fact from what I gather he was a pretty bad guy...

true veganism influences almost every aspect of an individual's life. i listen to bands whose lyrics and ideals are congruent with my beliefs. some straight-edge kids might want to listen to minor threat. i'm vegan so i like vegan-influenced music. it is not like every vegan musician is tagged either--they are mainly musicians whose music focuses or at least espouses some vegan beliefs.

dewerner89 wrote: June 2009 Does it make sense to tag music als "vegan"? Does anybody listen to music only because the musicians are vegan? It's the same like "gay metal", it's unnecessary to know about the habits of the musicians to like their music. Who cares? Either you like the band or not. it's like christian - does anybody listen to it just because the musicians are christian? it's a mark of the band and so i think this tag is justified
