I would suggest listening to "Brother, Sister" first, but you can't really go wrong. All of their albums are fantastic and memorable.

I'd like to start listening to these guys, but don't know where to start. Is there an album you guys can suggest? Like, the kind of album you'd kill to listen to for the first time again?

Silencer is incredible. Most bands are lucky to get one song like that out in their career..

mwY lyrics are certainly penetrative. It's interesting because, through all their metaphors and symbolism, they reach down to a really visceral level in the listener. I would definitely call Aaron Weiss a thinker, but his words stimulate emotion you might not naturally associate with the intellect. Higher or lower parts of the soul, I don't know, but mwY are grasping at something fundamental- and I'm certain that is an intention the band would be willing to own up to.

That's assuming that 'higher spirituality' is something apart from the stuff of life, the passions etc. I'm not convinced this is the case. Your conclusion is about yourself and based on your own assumptions and expectations of the band, their music, and their frontman. The greatest teacher in Christianity was homeless, lived in poverty, military occupation, a friend to drunks and prostitutes, and ended up beaten and hung on a cross. Somebody who spoke to the lower and higher parts of the soul, using everyday metaphors to illustrate what he wanted to communicate. What does 'the word made flesh' actually mean? mwY are a band, not a cloister and they've never been anything less than clear about that.

Ok, here's my conclusion: mwY speaks to the lower parts of the soul, animal instincts, not higher spirituality (notwithstanding the members' personal spirituality, at whatever degree that may be).
