Yiruma nació el 15 de febrero de 1978, en Seoul, Korea. Es un compositor de piano sur-koreano. Esta casado con Miss Korea, SonHye-im.
Yiruma comenzó a aprender a tocar el piano en su casa en Korea a la edad de 5 años. En 1988 se mudó a Inglaterra y, en diciembre de 1996, participó en el álbum The Musicians of Purcell (Decca). Se graduó de “The Pucell of Specialist Music School” (Londres) en julio de 1997 y luego de el Colegio de los Reyes (Kings College) en Junio del 2000.
