Ah, 2010... 2010 que está indo e 2011 que está chegando. Isto posto, resolvi agrupar algumas das melhores canções que, particularmente, gostei nesses 300 e poucos dias. Os gêneros são diversos, desde o indie/rock até o eletro/pop, com leves incrementos dances intercalados pelo pouco presente, mas ainda assim marcante rock. Esse ano optei por escutar artistas naturalmente, sem a influenciável interferência de revistas digitais ou revisões pelo mundo. O resultado foi a maciça presença de músicos pop, tais como Keane, Kylie Minogue e até mesmo Katy Perry, contrastados por outros indies como Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire e Delphic. Além disso, esse ano foi relativamente mais autêntico e divertido por parte deste que aqui escreve, fato que certamente conotou muitas das preferências expostas a seguir.

The Veils are my favourite band (after an intense six month relationship, lol) and I have been checking out some of the so called similar artists recommended by Last.fm, to see if I find something else to love and cherish the way I love and cherish them. And because being a music fan I constantly need new exciting musical challenges to explore.


So far, this is what I have concluded:

The Raveonettes - Wonderful band, but absolutely no similarities. They come from Denmark, they are a Nordic duo making catchy but experimental noise rock. I like them. I like their sort of twee nastiness, but only in small doses

Interpol - Even though their melodies are decent, Paul Banks must be the most monotone singer in the indie scene today and this scene is full of monotone singers

Arcade Fire - Ok, Win Butler's timbre is somewhat similar to Finn Andrews', I'll give them that. But I just can't stand this pompous self-important ass... You know…

Continuing from last week, it's time to move onto the third stage of my rundown of the last decade. Also, as this autumn marks twenty years of my being "into" alternative music, after this decade's rundown there will be a similar one to follow for the 90s (for which the "draft" list we pulled together over the weekend consists of nearly 300 tracks!)...

The only cover of Aphex Twin that I can think of, and who else but a band with the sheer level of technical ability that Dillinger have - with Mike Patton offering a truly demented and terrifying lead vocal - could even give this a go? Doesn't add a lot to the original, not that it really needed to, but for the sheer gleeful malevolence of it, it is well worth a listen. Thankfully, though, it doesn't have a video like the original...

Arcade of Fire
During the downtime between Funeral and the beginning of recording sessions for Neon Bible, the band purchased a defunct church in the small Quebec town of Farnham, approximately 70 kilometres (45 miles) outside of Montreal, and spent the early part of 2006 converting it into a recording studio.
The band formed while Win Butler attended the Phillips Exeter Academy and originally consisted of Butler, Josh Deu, and Tim Kyle (now of Wild Light).

THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST GIGS I'VE SEEN!

On Sunday, I went to the Arcade Fire gig at Alexandra Palace, and it really was awesome.

I really wasn't in the mood for a gig on Sunday morning, and I was really considering giving my ticket to a friend who also likes them. I had to set off at about 16:00 to get there in time to get a decent place. I've never been to that area of London by public transport before, and I didn't really know how I was going to get from the Tube Station to the venue. Fortunately, after asking a few people, I found a bus that would take me to the Palace. I arrived there at about 17:50, 40 minutes before the doors were due to open. 40 minutes of standing on an exposed hill in the rain and wind. Fun, eh?

Finally they opened the doors, surprisingly, on time, and I could get out of the rain. I was stopped at security because of my camera, and told I had to leave it at the cloak room. By the time I had got some cash out and taken my bag and jacket to the cloak room, I was about 4th row back from the stage. …

Quite possibly the coolest video I've ever seen is the interactive one for Arcade Fire for Neon Bible.

Fri 24 Aug – Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival

The Arcade Fire are a Canadian rock band who use a large range of instruments to create amazing, complex, beautiful songs that just make you want to dance like nobodies watching. The Band played on the main stage on Sunday before possibly the most anticipated band of the festival, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers but the Arcade Fires amazing performance completely overshadowed the Chilli Peppers lifeless drone that could have just been played from their greatest hits CD.

Renowned for putting on amazing live shows and putting everything they’ve got into everything they do on stage, Experiencing The Arcade fire live is something completely mind-blowing. …

Arcade Fire finally (they cancelled their previous gig in Lyon) came to lyon to see me, so I couldn't avoid being there. ;)

I needed at least Arcade Fire to have me move & go in a gig. Can you imagine I've been only to a couple in the last 10 years ????
