Wilson Picket (1941-2006) tiene su nombre grabado en oro entre los más grandes del soul.Como muchos otros, comenzó a interesarse por la música gracias al gospel que se cantaba y se sigue cantando en las misas de la comunidad negra de EEUU.
Picket realizó sus mejores grabaciones en el sello Stax de Memphis (Tennesse),donde también grababa Ottis Redding. Allí formó equipo con el extraordinario guitarrista de los MG´s de Booker T. y compositor, Steve Cropper.
Cropper también colaboró con Ottis Redding, sin ir más lejos, «sitting on the dock of the bay» lo firma junto a Redding.
Con Picket creó así mismo numerosos éxitos, entre los que sobresale «In the midnight our» (1965).A Wilson le bastó ese año de 1965 para forjar su leyenda.
Otros éxitos fueron «634 5789»,»If you need me» o «99 and a half won´t do».
En los años 70 entró en el olvido del que le rescató la película «The comminments» (1993) de Alan Parker, donde se contaba la historia de un grupo de jovenes irlandeses que montaban un grupo para emular a Wilson Picket.
