Willie Nelson nació en Texas en 1933, es todo un icono de la música country y a lo largo de su carrera ha colaborado con todo tipo de artistas.
Su carrera empezó en los años 50, pronto se fue ganando el respeto de la comunidad country por sus composiciones más que por sus interpretaciones, donde su voz nasal no era bien acogida por todo el mundo.
El éxito le llegó a traves de Patsy Clyne, la cual inmortalizaria su «Crazy». Poco después aparecería otro clásico: «Funny, how time slips away», versioneada por prácticamente todos los artistas punteros del género.
Quizá su época dorada fueron los años 70, en los que el mismo consiguió el éxito cantando sus propias composiciones, como las inolvidables «Blue eyes crying in the rain», «On the road again» o el imprescindible «Always on my mind».
Nelson nunca comulgó con la forma de hacerse las cosas en la meca del country: Nashville, y, a finales de los 70 fundó junto a su amigo Waylon Jennings el llamado movimiento «outlaw», que pretendía romper los rígidos esquemas y normas que parecían imponerse en aquellos momentos.
En los años 80 formó el supergrupo The Highwaymen, junto a otros gigantes como Johnny Cash, Kris Kristoferson y Waylon Jennings, todo un hito.
