Al año siguiente (1983) editaron el álbum «Guardians Of The Flame», precedido por un mini LP titulado «Wait For The Night» («A Cry In The Night» en la versión inglesa)

The only similarity with Manowar that both those two bands are the most manly bands ever.

My second post in a row but... "They auditioned around 40 singers before David DeFeis was introduced to Jack by a friend of Joey. With an astounding interpretation of "No Quarter" by Led Zeppelin, "Child in Time" by Deep Purple and "Catch the Rainbow" by Rainbow: David got the vacant role of singer, bringing with him bassist Joe O'Reilly. At the end of 1981 the first line-up was ready." -Wikipedia. I'd MURDER to be there and hear those! ;(

My thoughts from time to time are similar to -DarkAvenger-'s. Mostly when I'm listening to Veni, Vidi, Vici. The epic of epics.

I cannot understand how it's possible, band like Virgin Steele to exist, there's nothing alike them to be found in the world of music. Seriously there is no words great and powerful enough to describe greatness of VS. I would die just for the opportunity to shake hands with man behind the band, David Defeis.

Invictus kicks some major ass. These guys are the only keyboard-heavy power metal band worth giving a damn about.

I've always glossed over Virgin Steele but after finally giving one of their albums a shot (Invictus) I can safely say this is better than anything Manowar has done over the past 2 decades,

Manowar are a novelty, Virgin Steele are anything but. Could Manowar even attempt songs like Black Light on Black, Emalaith, Kingdom of the Fearless, The Burning of Rome or A Token Of My Hatred? No, they would rather rant about being the Kings of Metal and releasing sub standard hail to metal tracks. Manowar and Virgin Steele are similar because they are from the same place and formed around the same time, the music is not the same and it's a shame that VS are compared to Manowar because when it comes to power, emotion, musicianship, lyrics and everything else positive...Virgin Steele come out on top. By The Gods!

Underrated isn't a good word. Almost everyone who knows this band and likes the style loves the band. Overlooked is a better word, because no one has ever heard of them

When I first heard Virgin Steele it seemed like Manowar with better musicians, better lyrics and better music in general but there was still a similarity, Virgin Steele are better in every way in my opinion and the best Manowar music for me is Triumph of Steel and backwards, Virgin Steele would be 1994, Marriage albums and onward. If we are comparing bands, the best Manowar stuff is better than the weakest Virgin Steele but the rest of Virgin Steeles music is different class.

To me Virgin Steele sound like a crossover between Manowar and Lost Horizon (it was on their forum I learned about VS, because almost no music topic there goes without mentioning the name VS). Compared to Manowar in particular I find VS having better and more complex music and lyrics. But I like Manowar equally, because of their simplicity and the no-bullshit metal attitude. Bottom line is, Manowar and Virgin Steele both kick ass.

DeFeis is one of the most enthusiastic musicians I know. He's like Eric Adams from Manowar, except that DeFeis particularly does everything by himself. And yes, I even compare Virgin Steele to Manowar musically, but I recognize that Manowar don't say anything in particular in their stuff, whereas Virgin Steele tells an epic story with their every album. Anyway, I think DeFeis' pure will and enthusiasm makes it so his music doesn't even become worse due time - actually I think he's kind of evolving all the time :D - and his very unique voice stays year after year. \m/
