La banda venerable del death metal, Unleashed, fue formada por Johnny Hedlund después de su salida en Nihilist, ahora llamados Entombed. Nunca siendo una de las bandas mas tecnicas, sin embargo siendo considerados una de las mejores bandas de la «old school» del death metal sueco, siempre con la misma alineación, antes del lanzamiento de Warrior lanzado en 1995.
A finales de los 80’s, Johnny Hedlund graba el demo de Nihilist junto con miembros de Entombed. Por razones desconocidas, Johnny se separa de Nihilist y Nihilist se convierte en Entombed entonses inmediatamente Hedlund decide hacer su propio grupo, este seria Unleashed.
Unleashed firma en 1990 por la casa en ese tiempo nueva «Century Media». 1991 año de salida del primer álbum de Unleashed, «Where no Life Dewels» seria el nombre del álbum, para muchos el mejor de la banda y un pilar en la escena del Death Metal Sueco.
Mucho se esperaba en la escena, principalmente Under, del nuevo disco de Unleashed. No paso mucho tiempo y en 1992 el grupo saca otra joya mas a la venta «Shadows In The Deep» el álbum con el que el grupo haria historia en la escena del Death Metal actualmente se pueden encontrar muchas versiones del disco tanto como la remasterizada como la edicion con Bonus Tracks.
Unleashed tiene el credito de ser el primer grupo de Death Metal en hablar sobre temas escandinavos e historia Vikinga en sus letras.
Para conmemorar el éxito del grupo sale en el 93 «Live in Viena» un disco en vivo con una produccion aceptable y toda la fuerza del grupo en vivo.

Unleashed are currently in Fredrik's "Chrome studio" for the recording of our 10th full length album. The album will be released on Nuclear Blast records early next year. Musically, it will be the logical continuation from "Midvinterblot" and "Hammer Battalion". Lyrically, you will recognize what has become the Unleashed trademark since more than 20 years, the combination of the past, present and future of viking struggle and way of life. A few of the songs also mark the beginning of a story never before told. More details about the album and songtitles coming soon.

I somehow have a problem enjoying this band because the viking theme just seems so odd in in conjunction with the typical Death Metal sound, good band nevertheless. They will probably need some time to grow on me.
