Artist: Townes Van Zandt
Original Album: Roadsongs
Track: Dead Flowers
Thinking about The Big Lebowski lately, I recall TVZ's cover of this Mick Jagger and Keith Richards track from Sticky Fingers closing the movie. I'm not a huge TVZ fan, but knowing what I know of his life, I think this song is even better coming from him.
I got to thinking about TVZ in the first place recently because my favorite track on Raising Sand is Robert Plant's cover of Nothin.
It's in the same vein as stuff I've enjoyed from Dreamland, and excellent with Alison Krauss' string work backing him up. And considering covers in turn: as I like TVZ's version of today's selection better than the Stones' original, I think I like RP's cover of "Nothin'" better than TVZ's version.

13 Abr 2007, 20:03 de WildStyle24_7As my chart shows, I've been listening to this artist a lot lately, mostly courtesy of eMusic, and on their site, I stumbled across this quote;
"...Van Zandt's music: intimate, personal, and palpable; there is no hiding the sorrow that exudes from these songs. These are sad songs, folks, and Van Zandt doesn't dress them up as anything else. ... Even though most of his music is sad, it is not sentimental. You get the sense that, like Hank Williams before him, Van Zandt means what he sings..."
I found him through the track "Dead Flowers", as featured on the Big Lebowski Soundtrack - have a listen, and revel in the imagery of the lyrics.Townes Van ZandtDead Flowers
