Tilly and the Wall es un grupo indie pop de Omaha, Nebraska. Su nombre fue originado del libro para niños llamado Tillie and the Wall escrito por Leo Lionni. Una de las características de este grupo es que posee una bailarina de claqué, en lugar de un baterista.
El grupo formado en 2001 después del fallecimiento de muchos grupos de Omaha, incluyendo el grupo de Conor Oberst llamado Park Ave., en el cual Neely Jenkins y Jamie Pressnall (entonces Jamie Williams) fueron miembros. Jamie trajo a Kianna Alarid de otra banda que rompió llamada ‘Magic Kiss’. Derek Presnall y Nick White, nativos de Dunwoody, Georgia fueron llamados a la escena musical en Omaha, Nebraska y se mudaron.
Su primer show fue en la noche open-mic (micrófono-abierto) en el ahora difunto Ranch Bowl. Su primer lanzamiento, Woo!, fue grabado en el garaje de Conor Oberst, publicado por ellos, y distribuido en los shows alrededor del área de Omaha. El grupo lanzo un limitado epónimo 7» en Rue Royale Records, seguido por su LP debut, Wild Like Children en 2004. Fue el lanzamiento de la «bandera del barco» en el sello de Oberst Team Love y hecho con la ayuda de Presto Studios. Wild Like Children ganó a la banda una cantidad substancial de aclamación crítica y los propulsó a los tours nacionales con Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley y of Montreal. A comienzos de 2005, Tilly and the Wall se convirtió en la primera «banda en residencia» en Omaha’s Bemis Center por Artes Contemporáneas, usando el Bemis Underground’s Studio T para desarrollar su álbum siguiente de Wild Like Children.
