Alcest - Shelter
I was definitely iffy about this, because it's their first full shoegaze record. no black metal, no metal, whatsoever. Usually, when Alcest go for shoegaze it sounds like Sigur Ros more than anything . .and well, no.

. . .at first, it does seem like we're getting the same acoustic-guitars-with-reverb no-wall-of-sound stuff. Around track three though, they hit it.That big ethereal guitar sound rolls in like katamari damacy and envelopes everything in the chorus and you realize they're there, they're finally there!! They've been going for Slowdive for so long, and finally they've made it. Of course, it doesn't sound like Slowdive all the time, but when it doesn't sound like Slowdive it kinda sounds like Ride. Niege sounds like the guy from Ride, actually. A lot of this could be compared to nowhere, even if it's not as upbeat as it. Neil Halstead is on this album too. …
