The Walkmen son una banda de rock alternativo de Nueva York, Estados Unidos. La banda fue formada por 3 miembros de Jonathan Fire*Eater (la cual fue recientemente separada) y dos miembros de The Recoys en 2000. El grupo esta formado por Hamilton Leithauser (vocalista, guitarra), Paul Maroon (guitarra, piano), Walter Martin (organo, bajo), Peter Bauer (bajo, organ) and Matt Barrick (bateria). Cuatro de los cinco miembros son originarios de Washington, D.C.
En 2002, su álbum debut «Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone» fue bien recibido ´pr los criticos por su sonido experimental y un sonido progresivo. El siguiente álbum «Bows + Arrows», fue lanzado a la venta en 2004.
El 23 de mayo del 2006 fue lanzado «A Hundred Miles Off». Su primer sencillo de este fue «Louisiana.» Peter Bauer y Walter Martin han cambiado los instrumentos en el nuevo álbum con Bauer manipulando el órgano y Matin tocando el bajo.
En 2007, la banda continua de gira y escribiendo canciones para el próximo álbum.
