The Kingsmen first recorded "Louie, Louie."
The Sandpipers reached the charts with it three years later but only got up to the number 30 position. The Kingsmen reached number 2 in 1963.
The original version was written and recorded by Richard Berry way back in 1956, well before the Kingsmen.
Hahahahaha, heteronormative! I was going to say unispired, but I guess it's also heteronormative: it's all songs about hetero love from a masculinist perspective, except for Louie Louie, which might be coded a bit queer, depending on why he and Louie have gotta go.
