The Prodigy es un grupo inglés que interpreta música electrónica, su sonido utiliza elementos del Rave, Drum n Bass, el Big Beat, Industrial, Electropunk, y algo de Punk y Hardcore, que logran un sonido único. Formado por Liam Howlett en los teclados, Keith Flint como vocalista y bailarín, y Maxim Reality como vocalista, MC en vivo. Leeroy Thornhill, bailarín, también fue un miembro de la banda desde 1990 hasta el año 2000.
Una vocalista y bailarina llamada Sharky también se asoció brevemente con la banda en sus comienzos. The Prodigy disfrutó de su gran golpe de publicidad al ser pioneros en el movimiento underground de la música electrónica conocida como «rave». Desde entonces han adquirido una inmensa popularidad y renombre mundial. Algunas de sus canciones más populares son «Charly», «Out of Space», «Smack My Bitch Up», «No Good (Start the Dance)», «Breathe» y «Firestarter». «The Prodigy» han ido desarrollando varios estilos a lo largo de los tiempos, en sus inicios como pioneros de la música rave subversiva, y actualmente, como compositores de canciones electronicas con elementos punk en sus vocalistas.
Comienzos
Formado en Essex, Inglaterra, The Prodigy comenzó su vida inicialmente con un demo de 10 canciones de Liam Howlett , que introdujo completo en un teclado un secuenciador Roland W-30. XL Recordings tomó el demo y un álbum inicial de 12» llamado ‘’What Evil Lurks’’ que fue editado a principios de 1991 . El nombre de la banda se piensa que fue tomado del teclado Moog Prodigy (creado por Robert Moog ).

The Prodigy was my first favourite band ever! When I was seven I heard "Breathe" from the radio. Soon after that I saw "Firestarter" music video. And so I became a fan. Many many people are embarassed when it comes to their first favourite band. I'm so fucking glad and lucky that it was The Prodigy who took me into the world of music :)
