The Postal Service es un proyecto musical formado por el cantante Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) y el productor Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel, Headset y Figurine). Además han colaborado con ellos Jenny Lewis (cantante solista y vocalista de Rilo Kiley), Jen Wood y Chris Walla (productor de Death Cab for Cutie)

Los rumores dicen que el dúo The Postal Service fue formada a través del «servicio postal». Jimmy Tamborello, compositor y creador de toda la música del dúo, envió las canciones hechas a través de correo electrónico al cantante Ben Gibbard, y éste, desde su casa compuso todas las letras del disco «Give up». Gibbard reenvió a su vez el proyecto completo a Tamborello.
