De origen netamente irlandés y representado por la impagable imagen de Shane MacGowan, su cantante y lider, The Pogues conjugan aires populares, voluntad épica y reflexiones de caracter social con una grosería altisonante que a fuerza de altercados acabó por identificarles.

Desde una plataforma folk, pero con planteamientos punk, el septeto The Pogues encabeza una corriente que hace música de tradición gaélica con intensidad y arrojo, rastreando sentimientos añejos embebidos en temperamentales dosis de romanticismo y evocación historica. Shawn: If I Should Fall From Grace With God is considered their most accessible record, but to hook you I'd recommend their second one - Run Sodomy & The Lash. It's their most well-rounded record and is considered their best by many fans. Red Roses For Me is my personal favourite. It's definitely where their roots lie, w/ a heavy Irish Folk Punk/Rock influence and many traditional covers/songs. I'd recommend that once you've delved into RS&TL. Enjoy them!

I haven't really heard much in the way of the Pogues. They've always been one of those bands I've wanted to check out, but just dismissed time after time. The one time I tried getting into them I was too young to really appreciate most music. What would someone recommend of their albums for starters?

Love You till the End, IMO, is not even close to being one of their best. It's great all the new fans that movie made them, but you should really check out their better work.
