Tres chicos de Spartanbough acostumbrados al sonido sureño del country, el blues, honky tonk y cajun tocaban con gran virtuosismo y profesionalidad. Eran tres cowboys de aquella ciudad de Carolina del Sur que hacía frontera con Carolina del Norte y Georgia.
Influidos por los contemporáneos y algo anteriores Allman Brothers Band dieron un sonido campestre al hasta ese momento urbano sonido del Southern Rock.
Decidieron esos tres chicos Jerry Eubanks, George McCorkie y Toy Cadwell, hacer una banda y dejarse de músicas de bajas miras, y reclutaron al bajo al hermano Tommy Cadwell, a la batería un “redneck” llamado Paul Riddle y a la voz, una de las mejores voces de la música el increíble Doug Gray.
Entonces grabaron un EP con una canción que los define “Take a highway” totalmente inclasificable, compleja e increíble. Sus siguientes diez discos son joyas de la música en todos sus frentes. Country, música de salón, ragtime, blues, honky tonk, rockabilly y por supuesto rock and roll.

this from a time when folks that listened to and made this type of music were actually cool and not just a bunch of middle class white suburban assholes or third rate musicians that couldn't pay their bills with rock and roll so they sold out to the man to get some air play on CMT. Just my opinion.

The first concert I ever saw, was Marshall Tucker Band, at McGraw Hall, Northwestern Campus, and even though I would have rather seen Led Zeppelin, or Pink Floyd, it was still a good show.
