The Maccabees se formaron en 2003 cuando su cantante Orlando Weeks comenzó a ensayar en su habitación con el batería Robert Thomas, el bajista Rupert Jarvis y los guitarristas -y hermanos- Hugo y Felix White. Por aquel entonces, se hicieron adictos a los documentales de la BBC en los que se pasaban directos de XTC, Dr. Feelgood y Talking Heads y, claro, se enamoraron del pop. Su melodioso, espástico y británico sonido recuerda al mejor pop crudo de maestros como The Kinks o Ian Dury, aunque en la actualidad pasen por ser los traviesos vecinos de The Futureheads. ‘Lego’, ‘X-Ray’ o ‘First Love’ son sucintos pildorazos de pop sin trampa ni cartón, con las guitarras de punta y unas detalladas letras cargadas de romanticismo juvenil. Su álbum de debut, grabado con Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, Kaiser Chiefs), se anuncia cargado de magníficas canciones que su arrolladora presencia se encargará de subrayar en directo.
