Apparently Jimi Hendrix could play a guitar with his teeth! Or behind his back! Yes, I just saw a documentary about him, and now I respect him even more. Anyone who can play a guitar with his teeth (and still sounds fabulous) deserves a medal.
So, this is his second album. I keep talking about The Jimi Hendrix Experience as if it’s only Jimi Hendrix, but that’s not true of course. On this album the presence (and influence) of the other band members is more noticeable (Noel Redding even sings once), and of course that adds a nice accent to the songs.
At first, this album didn’t impress me that much as Are You Experienced?, but that was just a matter of time. The guitars on this album are even better, and Jimi Hendrix even goes sometimes a bit to the funky side (Wait Until Tomorrow, You Got Me Floatin’) … and Little Wing is an absolute classic. Oh, and you can hear the raindrops in One Rainy Wish, unbelievable.
16 Nov 2008, 7:42 de rfduckJimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell passed away this week. He was probably my favorite drummer. I always enjoy hearing what crazy things he did on Jimi's recordings.
Here are ten of my favorite Mitch Mitchell performances, in no particular order:
1) Crosstown Traffic (from Electric Ladyland)
Mitch wasn't merely a psychedelic jazz rocker. He could funk it up too, as this groove-based ditty shows.
2) Manic Depression (from Are You Experienced)
This is one of Mitch's greatest. People always comment that this is Mitch's song as much as it is Jimi's. He keeps pounding away and doesn't ever let up.
3) Can You See Me (from Are You Experienced)
Here, Mitch simply attacks you with his drumming. Each hit of the drumstick is like a gunshot exploding.
4) Ain't No Telling (from Axis: Bold As Love)
Mitch's crazy drumming keeps the tempo as high as it can go. Mitch brought the ability to rock just as much as Jimi did.

I don't care what anyone says, this album was a step backwards for Hendrix. Don't get me wrong, it has some good songs (Little Wing, Castles Made Of Sand, Wait Until Tomorrow, and Bold As Love are my favorites) but overall, it's no where near as strong as Are You Experienced? Axis is an important album and definitely a classic but probably my least-favorite of the three Experience albums.

19 Mar 2007, 16:16 de bamgrrlObligatory meme instructions for those that might want to take on the challenge. So I was reading some of the memes out there and I ran across one that I thought was kind of interesting. You were to play your neighbour radio station, list the first ten artist that came up and your feelings about them. I tried it and eh. It was okay. Two artists I didn’t like. One I never heard of but was iffy on and the rest old favorites. So I thought I’d try something I thought was more interesting to me personally. I thought I would do each of my friends radio stations. List the particular song as well as artist and give my reaction to it. I’ve also decided to add a music video if some kind to the journals to give them a little interest.
I decided to do a journal about the hubby. I know. I know. I already know the taste and I won’t be challenged or learn anything new but that’s the kind of mood I am in. Plus I’m silly busy at work so it’s nice to hear music I am familiar with and already like. …
