The Jayhawks ha sido uno de los más genuinos grupos del estilo musical llamado Americana. Su actividad se vió interrumpida en 2006, aunque dicen que temporalmente. La banda es originaria de Minesota y se hace popular en 1985. Entonces agrupaba a Marc Olson a la guitarra acústica y voces, Gary Louris a la guitarra eléctrica y voces, Marc Perlman al bajo y Thad Spencer a la batería. Ken Callahan sustituiría a Thad hasta 1993. En el 92, agotador año de conciertos, se les une Karen Grotberg para ocuparse de los teclados. En 1995 Olson deja la banda, que pasa a ser liderada por Lourys. La última actuación en vivo de The Jayhawks fuen en Valencia (España) en 2004.

Grupos como the Jayhawks son los verdaderos relevos generacionales de gente como Neil Young, o CSN. Son un tesoro. "Hollywood town hall" "tomorrow the green grass" y para mi sobretodo "rainy day music" son discazos que parecen sacados de los 60. Que suerte poderlos ver en el primavera Sound.
