The Handsome Family es un duo estadounidense de country-alternativo, la pareja la forma Brett y Rennie Sparks, algunos veces acompañados en las giras por un baterista. La banda se formó en Chicago a comienzos de los 90. Viven actualmente en Albuquerque, Nuevo Mexico.
La mayoria de sus canciones estan escritas en una estricta separación de roles: Brett Sparks escribe la musica mientras Rennie, quien también es escritora, escribe las letras. Estas poseen una extrecha conexión con el género literario conocido como «gótico americano», donde los elementos goticos aparecen en las canciones populares y en el country más antiguo. Las letras, raras y sorprendentes son cantadas por Brett Sparks en una suave, calmada y cálida voz de barítono. Son conocidos por sus excelentes «murder ballads».

Only Discovered them this year ,shame on me along with another discovered gem Chatham County Line,The British may still have the market on the latest hot band franchise,but there seems to be a vast hinterland in America awash with bands that defy catergorizing Americana wont do it,BUt Fleet foxes,My Morning Jacket etc and then Artists like Laura Cantrell and John Prine amongst hundreds of others all seem unique .Live Rennie does come into her own,her on stage patter with the band is very funny,Brett has great stage presence and charisma ..The Lonliness of Magnets is awesome,love these guys and Chatham...both are visiting London this Year seem them once cant wait to see them again. America we love you for producing these guys
