The Allman Brothers Band es una banda de Macon, Georgia, que el Salón de la Fama del Rock describe como «los principales arquitectos del rock sureño»[1]. El grupo se formó en 1969 y dos años más tarde George Kimball los describió en la revista Rolling Stone como la mejor banda de rock and roll que se había creado en Estados Unidos en los últimos cinco años[2]. Destacan por su jamming y su habilidad para la improvisación, bien ejemplificadas por su álbum en vivo At Fillmore East. La banda ha obtenido once Discos de Oro y cinco de Platino entre 1971 y 2005[3]. Rolling Stone clasificó a The Allman Brothers en el 52º puesto en su lista de los 100 artistas más grandes de todos los tiempos[4]. El grupo sigue en activo en la actualidad.
Uno de sus temas más conocidos es el instrumental «Jessica», aparecido en el disco «Brothers and Sisters», de 1973, grabado después del fallecimiento de Duane Allman (1946-1971), guitarrista y lider del grupo hasta entonces. Duane Allman es recordado por, entre otras colaboraciones, su participación en el disco de Eric Clapton «Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs» (1970). Lynyrd Skynyrd le dedicaron la canción «
Free Bird».
