Just listened to The Tell-Tale Heart
. And realized (again) what I love most in a song:
Eclecticness. If that's a word.
One of my all-time favorite songs, if not the favorite song (and I don't even have a copy) is Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody
. This one has a number of styles, all in one small package. What's not to love?
Oh, of course, a nice plot, nice lyrics are a plus.
And... this is also what I like about "grunge". And similar stuff. Let's better call it "Power Pop", which was used at one point for the Pixies and similar bands. Listen to Cannonball
. Loud, calm, minimalistic, wall-of-sound -- there's even this one point where it goes totally quiet -- and then comes back with a vengeance. Love it. :-)
Compare to how japanese Manga/Anime are not as limited to a "genre" as is usual for western art. Same thing, at least in MNSHO. ;-)
