The Airborne Toxic Event, originarios de Los Feliz, en California, es un grupo que ha creado unas expectativas increíbles en muy poco tiempo. Hace apenas dos años de su creación y su popularidad crece tanto como su indudable talento.

Mikel Jollett se encontraba escribiendo una novela, en marzo de 2006, cuando le diagnosticaron una enfermedad autoinmune, rompió con su pareja sentimental y se enteró de que su madre padecía de cáncer. Todo en una misma semana. Empujado por todos esos sucesos, decidió cambiar las novelas por las canciones.

Durante el verano de ese mismo año, Jollett conoció al batería Daren Taylor y ambos se entendieron rápidamente. Después de trabajar como un dúo durante cuatro meses juntos creando nuevo material, Jollett propuso a la violinista Anna Bulbrook y al bajista Noah Harmon unirse al grupo. Anna entró con la idea de tocar el violín, aunque poco tardó en sugerir la viola, y al final terminó también tocando la pandereta, los teclados y cantando. Finalmente se unió al grupo Steve Chen, escritor, guitarrista y pianista. Era amigo de Jollett desde hacía unos años, y no dudó ni un instante cuando Mikel le propuso ser el guitarrista principal de la banda.

Comparables con The Cure, Modest Mouse, The Smiths, Franz Ferdinand, The Clash, U2, Morrissey y The Arcade Fire.
