Grupo formado en Estados Unidos en 1975 y que debuta en 1977 con el album 77. Perteneciente en sus orígenes a la denominada New Wave, Talking Heads es uno de los grupos que mejor muestra la transición que va del rock a la música electrónica. Incorporan sonidos «art-funk», sintetizadores y bases electrónicas muy potentes, pero siguen ahí el guitarreo rockero, la espontaneidad de las letras y la voz tan underground del compositor y solista David Byrne. «Psycho-killer», su primer single, incorpora letras en francés. El tema que consolidó su fama internacional fue «Take me to the river», un cover de Al Green que apareció en el álbum More Songs About Buildings And Food (1978). Este disco, producido por Brian Eno, es uno de los primeros en incorporar polirritmos afro, latinos y caribeños al formato canción de la new wave.
El grupo se convirtió en referencia musical mezclando el ambiente disco con enérgicos sonidos, étnicos y tribales o experimentales y oscuros, propios del mejor post-punk.
En 1991, se separan. El grupo sigue haciendo alguna gira posteriormente sin David Byrne y haciéndose llamar The Heads.
