Se trata de una banda de Drone Metal norteamericana; incorpora también elementos de Dark Ambient, Metal y Doom Metal. La banda está formada por Stephen O’Malley (Khanate, Burning Witch) y Greg Anderson (Goatsnake). Originalmente el grupo se formó como banda tributo a Earth, esta es la formación en funcionamiento desde finales de los ’90s.
Como banda, se caracteríza en especial por vestir atuendos de capuchas en sus actuaciones en vivo o en fotos promocionales. Al mismo tiempo ellos crearon su propio sello de nombre Southern Lord Records.
