I wonder what contract they signed that forces them to stay with their current label. Record has been done for months and still nothing.

Thanks, Spark. I love Streetlight, but loathe and hate their work ethic and who they are. It doesn't make sense, but it does in my head. Viz, Yeah I get what you're saying. I think the covers is a similar deal here... I would much rather have 2 new original albums. But this covers album/collection could be just as great. Eh, different strokes for different folks. I think The Mars Volta are amazing. They are pretentious as fuck, but make great music. Some of the best musicians around.

Eh, I'm kind of ambivalent about the remake. I get why they did it, but it felt like an excuse for not putting out a new album, kind of how them making their covers album feels right about now. And I was kind of joking about the Mars Volta, I don't really hate them, I just find them more boring than, say, At the Drive In. I kind of think of them as a less hateable (latino) version of Coheed & Cambria.

You have a strange way of showing affection to one of your favourite bands, Tuna.

They wasted so much time doing that. Why would they remake a classic? Idiots!

why, oh why did they have to record keasby nights again... that always seemed questionable to me. maybe its just because i grew up with the catch 22 album, but i really really dislike all the remakes. kinda pointless

My point exactly vvv. Also, The Mars Volta aren't for everyone. But they are better musicians.

I agree that the wait has been ridiculous though. I get sick of listening to the same songs over and over again, I can only imagine that the Streetlight dudes are fucking bored of playing the same set for years.

Well, the main difference between Streetlight Manifesto and the Mars Volta is that I can listen to Streetlight without thinking "this is fucking stupid."

Tom is lazy. Simply put. Portugal. The Man just announced their next new album, entitled 'American Ghetto'. Their work ethic puts all other bands to shame. It's crazy. Streetlight Manifesto's songs are, on a scale from 1 to 10, a 7 regarding intricacy. Tomas' guitar riffs are simple. His solos are nice and smooth, but again, not too complex. The horns, I understand, make their songs seem* intricate. If you really break it all down, their songs are just as one dimensional as Blink-182s or Green Days. Understandably, since early punk bands are a strong influence in their music. An example of a truly intricate and complex band would be The Mars Volta. So much going. So many levels and elements.

Tom actually said he just hums the brass section parts and they put it down in a more legitimate form.

BIGTUNA69: Streetlight Manifesto's songs are a lot more intricate than you're giving them credit for. Also, if Tom wasn't the perfectionist that he is, Streetlight Manifesto wouldn't sound nearly as great as they do. Plus, do people forget that Tom not only writes the lyrics to the songs, but also the the guitar parts AND parts of the brass? Not to mention the fact that he also does all of the artwork for their merch... Yeah, it sucks having to wait so long to hear something new from these guys, but it's all anticipation for something that we know is going to be GREAT when it's finally released.
