Banda de rock americana, liderada y compuesta por los hermanos Russel y Ron Mael. Originalmente bajo el nombre de Halfnelson, a finales de los años 60. Tenida en la mayor estima por bandas como Depeche Mode, New Order y los Pet Shop Boys, y citada por todas ellas como una de sus mayores influencias. Aun en actividad, es una banda dificil de encasillar en un genero. Cambiantes en cada disco, siempre tienen un sonido muy particular, muy «Sparks». Desde rock, musica electronica, psicodelia, pop, hasta temas con tintes clasicos, son una banda completamente unica. Letras serias, comicas, extrañas, inusuales, igual que su sonido.

You know, although it's not my ultimate favourite, Indiscreet is probably the greatest testament to Sparks' genius, as it's so far-reaching musically without sacrificing the pure pop sensibility that runs through all their work. And Ron's songwriting, particularly the lyrics, are at their very best. I actually can't believe someone who's a fan could find some way to criticise it. Seriously.

Happy Hunting Ground is one of my favourite Sparks songs. It's the closest song on the album to the Kimono/Propaganda stuff and the brass instruments during the "It's fair, fair game inside" section are a lovely touch.

i don't think so. side 1 kinda shows them running out of ideas, especially on How Are You Getting Home and Happy Hunting Ground, which are lyrically hilarious but totally banal. the rest of the songs also kinda feel like they're trying too hard to be wacky, which is also a problem on Exotic Creatures of the Deep. it's still pretty damn wonderful but compared to the previous 5 albums (i'm including the halfnelson demos) it's kind of disappointing. side 2 is perfect and more than makes up for it though.
