On Fleurs she shows some amazing composition/instrumentation skills; some of the songs are just brilliant in their thematic development. My "problem" with that album is not the music itself, which has some truly gifted moments, but the lyrics. The lyrics aren't important on a few bands out there, but in the case of Sopor Aeternus, I've always felt connected with them, somehow. And they were a complement to the music. So, playing "Les Fleurs du Mal" and start listening about sexual desires, written in a sort of mundane and ordinary way I felt disappointed. And yet, I'm starting to truly enjoy the album, despite the lyrical content. I'm now curious to see with what will Anna Varney come up with in the next album.
