Social Distortion (Social D.) es una banda de rock and roll punk fundada en California en 1978.
Historia
La banda fue formada a finales de 1978 por Mike Ness cuando era un adolescente. Tocaron con bandas como the Adolescents, China White y Shattered Faith como parte del movimiento naciente del hardcore. Su música era rápida, enojada y enérgica. En 1984 la banda apareció en el documental Another State of Mind, escrito, producido y dirigido por Peter Stuart y Adam Small (co-creador de «Mad TV»). La banda sufrió un parón en 1985, debido a los problemas de Ness con la droga y con la ley.
La banda finalmente volvería lanzando su segundo álbum Prison Bound en 1988 con los recién llegado John Maurer en bajo y Christopher Reece en la batería. El álbum no fue exitoso, solo la canción «Prison Bound» encontró espacio en la estación de radio KROQ. La banda dejó TimeBomb Recordings y firmó por Epic Records en 1989.
A finales de los 1980s comenzaron a dirigirse hacia las raíces del rock, continuando en los 90s, y también comenzó a incluir elementos del grunge y cowpunk. Desde su inicio la banda ha sufrido muchos cambios, con muchos miembros entrando y saliendo, no obstante ha permanecido al micrófono el líder Ness y la banda nunca se ha roto. En 2000 el guitarrista y miembro durante largo tiempo Dennis Danell murió, pero la banda superó la pérdida y en 2004 lanzó su último álbum Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll.
La venda es actualmente que escribe y de ensayo de un álbum nuevo del estudio, que es debido para el lanzamiento alguna vez en 2007.
