Siouxsie & the Banshees es el nombre de una banda de rock británica formada en 1976. La banda liderada por Siouxsie fue uno de los grupos claves de la música de los años 80. Abanderados del movimiento post-punk, su música continuó evolucionando. El grupo se disolvió en 1996, aunque se volvió a juntar brevemente para una gira en 2002. La cantante también creó un segundo grupo The Creatures en 1981, con el que paralelamente continuó su carrera y con el que continuó después de la disolución de los banshees. Siouxsie hizo otras colaboraciones como por ejemplo un duo con Morrissey.

Sus canciones fueron versionadas por LCD Soundsystem(«Slowdive»), Massive Attack, Jeff Buckley, Tricky(«Tattoo») y Darkthrone(«Love in a Void»). La cantante recibió elogios de varios otros artistas como PJ Harvey y Garbage.

Tras la separación de los Banshees y el final de su segundo grupo The Creatures, Siouxsie canta ahora como solista desde septiembre de 2007.

Biografía
En sus inicios estuvo comprendida por Siouxsie líder y cantante solista, Steven Severin al bajo. En 1978, un disco pirata suyo ya circulaba de mano en mano, lo que demostraba su auge, grabaron su primer disco The Scream producido por Steve Lillywhite en el sello Polydor, del cual el sencillo

Hong Kong Garden fue número siete en Inglaterra. La banda estaba integrada entonces por Siouxsie, Severin, John McKay a la guitarra y Kenny Morris a la batería.

Después de un segundo álbum en 1979, Join Hands y con los sencillos [track artist=Siouxsie and the Banshees]The Staircase (Mystery][/track] y [track artist=Siouxsie and the Banshees]Playground Twist[/track] de temas estelares, volvieron los cambios.

I don't think of this music as music for candles and vampires tales, in my opinion Siouxsie and the Banshees is an awesome band of somber psychedelia, like dark hippies! and anyway.... just like Bauhaus, i think they are so much more than just gothic rock! that's what bothers me about labeling bands.
