Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, cantante y compositora de pop-rock en español e inglés, nació en Barranquilla (Colombia), el 2 de febrero de 1977. En árabe, Shakira (شاكرة) significa «llena de gracia».Ha sido ganadora en dos ocasiones del Premio Grammy y ocho veces ganadora del Grammy Latino.La artista ha vendido más de 50 millones de discos.
Se trata de una de las cantantes del ámbito musical latino con más éxito internacional. Sus discos más vendidos han sido Pies Descalzos, Dónde Están los Ladrones?, Laundry Service, Fijación Oral Vol. 1 y Oral Fixation vol. 2. Entre sus canciones más populares figuran temas como

Biografía
Infancia e inicios
Es hija de Nidia del Carmen Ripoll Torrado (barranquillera con lejana ascendencia catalana) y Willian Mebarak Chadid (neoyorquino de origen libanés). A la edad de ocho años comenzó a escribir y componer canciones, algunas con fondo autobiográfico, como la dedicada a su hermano muerto en accidente de tráfico o la dedicada a su padre («Tus gafas oscuras»). Participó por primera vez en el concurso televisivo «Buscando artista infantil» en el año 1988 (de la cadena regional de la costa colombiana Telecaribe), concurso que ganaría durante tres años consecutivos.
